The VALORANT Spike—the objective many players call the bomb—detonates 45 seconds after it is planted. A full defuse takes 7 seconds, and progress is saved after 3.5 seconds.
How long does the planted Spike take to explode?
The post-plant countdown is 45 seconds, according to the VALORANT Wiki and ValorFeed. That is the time from planting until detonation, not the normal round timer. Riot’s Beginner’s Guide describes the objective as attackers planting the Spike and trying to have it detonate while defenders try to defuse it; the guide does not give the exact countdown duration.
How long does it take to defuse the Spike?
A complete defuse takes 7 seconds, and progress is saved at the 3.5-second halfway point, according to the VALORANT Wiki. If a defuse is interrupted after that midpoint, the next attempt can finish the remaining half rather than starting over. ValorFeed also reports the 7-second full-defuse duration.

The exact durations above are reported by secondary gaming sources; the Riot pages cited here establish the objective and defuse-timer context, but do not publish those timing values as an official specification.

Does the round timer change the Spike timer?
They are distinct timers. Riot’s Patch Notes 9.03 mention a rare display bug in which the defuse timer could show “-00.00” if the Spike was defused as the round timer reached zero. That note, published August 13, 2024, describes a UI issue rather than a change to the post-plant countdown.
