Fortnite’s PC install size depends on which optional components you select. Epic Games Support says a specific reduced setup—Performance Mode with high-resolution textures removed—totals 17 GB and saves over 14 GB. For the size on your own PC, check the game’s options in the Epic Games Launcher.
How much space does Fortnite take up on PC?
Epic Games Support gives 17 GB as the total installation size for Fortnite when it is running Performance Mode and high-resolution textures are removed. Epic says removing those textures saves over 14 GB. These figures describe that configuration, not a universal install size for every PC.
Fortnite’s selected components and game updates can change the space used. Epic does not publish one fixed current total for every possible installation; the Launcher shows the storage assigned to the available features on your setup.
How to check Fortnite’s size in the Epic Games Launcher
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Click the three dots beside Fortnite, then choose Options.
- Review the listed features and their storage use. Uncheck any components you do not want installed.
Epic identifies high-resolution textures as an optional component that increases file size for pre-download streamed assets. The displayed options are the practical way to check the current size for your installation.

How to reclaim space with Performance Mode
If you use Performance Mode and want to reduce Fortnite’s storage use, open the Launcher’s Options for the game and uncheck Use High Resolution Textures. Epic says this can save over 14 GB and bring the total installation to 17 GB in the described setup. Your result may differ if your configuration or game version changes.
Does Fortnite require an NVMe SSD?
Epic lists an NVMe solid-state drive among its recommended PC specifications, but its requirements page does not specify a required storage capacity or a universal install size. The recommendation is for drive type, not a stated minimum amount of space. Check the Launcher’s feature list before deciding whether you need to free up or expand storage.
