Rest on a bench in Lumiose City to advance the in-game time to the next day or night, then check the map’s weather indicator. If it isn’t raining, try another time advance or keep playing: rain is chance-based, not guaranteed by resting.
How to try for rain
- Find a bench in Lumiose City. Interact with it to pass time to the next day or night.
- Check the weather on the map. Look for the rain icon rather than assuming that advancing time changed the weather. Showers may also be visible and audible.
- If it is still sunny, try again or continue playing. Resting gives you another chance for different weather, and rain can begin while you play. Neither route guarantees rain on the next attempt.
There is no established rain probability or deterministic schedule, and the available sources do not document a way to force ordinary overworld rain.
What rain changes
Serebii’s weather reference lists several effects for rain. Its page does not state a publication year, so treat these as reported game-reference values rather than official documentation of the weather algorithm.
- Water-type moves are listed as 50% stronger in rain.
- Fire-type moves are listed as 50% weaker in rain.
- Goomy and Sliggoo are associated with rain spawns; Skarmory is listed as not spawning in rain.
Siliconera reports that Sliggoo evolves into Goodra at level 50 when it is raining. Its October 21, 2025 article also identifies Side Mission 64, “Let It Rain, Let It Pour,” as a rain-related battle. In that mission’s context, speaking with Cielestine again can arrange the battle; that is not a general way to control the weather.

If the weather never changes
Check whether the game is updated. Nintendo’s support page lists Ver. 2.0.1, released January 21, 2026, as fixing cases in which the weather remained sunny and did not change. That fix addresses the stuck-sunny bug; it does not guarantee rain after updating or resting.
- From the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu, highlight the game.
- Press the + or − button and choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet and install an available update.
Nintendo’s note documents the fix, not the full weather system. The available sources do not establish a precise rain chance, a fixed schedule, or a universal method to force rain.
