To play Path of Exile 2 Early Access, get access for the platform you intend to use: PC (standalone client, Steam or Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. Most players need to obtain the relevant Early Access Supporter Pack; some existing Path of Exile supporters qualify automatically. Early Access keys do not transfer between PC and consoles, so plan on separate platform-specific access if you want to play on both.
Choose the platform you want to play on
- PC: The developer lists its standalone client, Steam and Epic Games Store.
- PlayStation: The current console listing is for PS5.
- Xbox: The current console listing is for Xbox Series X|S.
Check the official listing for your country before buying: availability, prices and subscription terms can vary by region and change. The US PlayStation and Xbox listings describe Early Access as a paid offering. PlayStation says a free-to-play version is planned for full release, but its date is undetermined; the Xbox store labels the game Game Preview. Neither listing establishes a full-release date. Get Early Access
If you do not already qualify
Buy the Early Access Supporter Pack through the store or client for the platform where you want to play. On console, use that console’s store listing; on PC, choose the standalone client, Steam or Epic Games Store. Confirm that the offer grants Early Access, since access is a game entitlement rather than simply an account sign-in or an installed client.
If you have supported the original Path of Exile
Grinding Gear Games’ FAQ says automatic Early Access eligibility applies if you previously bought a top-tier supporter pack priced at $480 USD, or if your lifetime purchases total at least $480 USD on a single platform. The single-platform condition applies to the lifetime-spend route. Check your account eligibility with the developer rather than assuming that purchases split across platforms count together. The FAQ dates from the 2024 launch period, so use it for these stated eligibility rules, not current store prices or the game’s present content status.

Understand PC client keys and platform access
On PC, an eligible player can claim a key to unlock another PC client—standalone, Steam or Epic. That key unlocks a client; it does not itself grant Early Access to an account that is not already eligible.
PC and console Early Access keys are not interchangeable. A Grinding Gear Games staff reply states that players must purchase access on the platform where they want to play. In practice, owning PC access does not grant PS5 or Xbox access, and console access does not grant PC access. If you want to play across those ecosystems, budget for the platform-specific purchase or entitlement required by each store. Grinding Gear Games’ platform-key clarification explains the restriction.

Check online-play requirements before choosing a console
The Xbox store states that online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately. The PlayStation listing says online play is required, but the available listing information does not establish a specific current PS Plus requirement. Check the local PS5 store page for its current subscription terms rather than assuming Xbox’s requirement applies to PlayStation. Xbox store details · PlayStation store details.
What cross-play and cross-progression mean for your choice
Grinding Gear Games Game Director Jonathan Rogers described the game as having full cross-play and cross-progression in a May 30, 2024 PlayStation Blog announcement; the Xbox listing also names cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression. These features do not mean Early Access purchases transfer between platforms. The cited information does not spell out account-linking steps or confirm how purchased stash tabs, cosmetics or other entitlements behave across platforms, so verify those details with current official account guidance before relying on them.

Pick based on where you want to play
- Choose PC if you want to use the standalone client, Steam or Epic. If you already have Early Access, a key may let you unlock another PC client without buying access again.
- Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X|S if you want to play on that console. Obtain access from that platform’s store and check its local online-play terms.
- Choose more than one platform only if you are prepared to arrange access separately for each ecosystem. Cross-play and cross-progression do not remove the platform-specific Early Access purchase requirement.
Early Access launched on December 6, 2024, according to the developer FAQ. That date identifies the launch, not the current patch, available content or a full-release schedule.
