On Xbox One and PlayStation 4, EA’s older manuals list the right stick for camera zoom and rotation. These are camera controls: rotating the view is different from turning a selected object in Build Mode.
Rotate the camera on PC
- Click and hold the right mouse button.
- Drag the mouse left or right to turn the view around the lot.
This gesture is described in an EA Forums community response, not in the official EA control documentation available here. If it does not behave as expected, check the in-game camera setting and displayed controls; the sources do not establish a complete current set of inputs for every camera mode. The Sims 3 Camera setting may affect how camera controls behave.
Rotate the camera on Mac
The retrieved EA documentation does not specify a definitive Mac camera-rotation gesture. The PC right-button drag may be a useful mouse-based input to try, but it is community-reported guidance, not a confirmed Mac-specific binding. EA’s instructions for rotating objects on Mac concern Build Mode items, not the camera.
Rotate the camera on console
EA-published manuals for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions list the right stick for “Zoom/Rotate camera.” The manuals cover older console versions, so controls may differ on another console or game setup. If they do, follow the controls displayed in your version of the game.

Camera rotation versus object rotation
Camera rotation changes the angle from which you view the lot. Object rotation changes the direction a selected item faces while you place or edit it in Build Mode. EA Help’s object-rotation instructions cover the latter—not how to turn the camera. For that reason, object shortcuts such as right-click or the period and comma keys should not be treated as camera controls.
When the camera will not turn
- Confirm that you are trying to move the view rather than rotate a selected Build Mode object.
- On PC, try the community-reported right-button drag and check the active camera setting if the gesture differs.
- On console, check the on-screen control prompts for your platform and version if the right stick does not match the older manuals.
- If your computer pointing device has no usable right button, a mouse with one is an optional way to try the PC gesture; it is not a game requirement.
EA’s official Sims tips page confirms that camera controls help players find a preferred angle while building, but does not specify the rotation input.
