Minecraft’s PC editions—Java and Bedrock for Windows—do not include native split-screen. A controller or second monitor does not change that. For local multiplayer on PC, each player needs a separate device; for two players sharing one screen, Minecraft’s documented option is Bedrock on a console.
Does Minecraft support split-screen on PC?
No. Minecraft’s official PC comparison says split-screen is available on consoles, not PC, and is not included in Java Edition. Minecraft’s Java-versus-Bedrock edition guide clarifies that local split-screen is supported only by console versions of Bedrock. That means neither Java Edition nor Bedrock for Windows offers an official way for two players to share one PC screen.
Why two controllers or monitors won’t make it work
A controller provides another way to control a game; it does not add a split-screen feature that the PC edition lacks. Minecraft documents controller use on a computer, but that is separate from which platforms support split-screen. Connecting two controllers—or displaying the PC on a second monitor—does not create a second player view.
What you can do instead
Use a second device for local multiplayer
If you have another computer or compatible device, you can play together over a local network (LAN). One device hosts the world and the other joins from its own copy of the game. Minecraft requires both players to use the same edition for LAN multiplayer: Java players join Java, and Bedrock players join Bedrock. Follow the relevant Minecraft Help LAN instructions; the support site also lists Windows PC LAN troubleshooting.

This is nearby multiplayer, not split-screen: each player uses a separate device and screen. It does not meet the one-PC requirement.
Use Bedrock on a console for same-screen play
If the priority is sharing one screen, Minecraft’s documented native option is a console version of Bedrock. Minecraft says console split-screen supports up to four players on screen at once. Check the Minecraft Help split-screen guidance for the console’s requirements and setup.

What about unofficial workarounds?
Community-made mods or multi-instance setups are not an officially supported split-screen solution, and their behavior and reliability are not established here. If you try one, treat it as an unofficial experiment rather than a dependable way to turn the standard PC edition into couch co-op. The supported choices are separate devices for LAN multiplayer or console Bedrock for shared-screen play.
