Find the Stone-Sheathed Sword at any one of three altars, then use the other altars to transform it: the Ruins of Unte altar turns it into the Sword of Darkness, and the Ancient Ruins of Rauh altar turns it into the Sword of Light. The transformation is permanent for that game cycle, so choose your form deliberately.
Where to find the Stone-Sheathed Sword
The Stone-Sheathed Sword can be collected at whichever of these three altars you reach first:
- Fog Rift Catacombs
- Ruins of Unte
- Ancient Ruins of Rauh
To reduce later travel, one acquisition guide recommends getting the sword at Fog Rift Catacombs first; it describes that as the more complicated location, so the other altar visits should take less time afterward. The altars at these locations let you transform the Stone-Sheathed Sword. The transformation is not a reversible swap: after changing it, you cannot recover the base sword at another altar in the same game cycle. The available details establish that the Sword of Light is a Shadow of the Erdtree-exclusive straight sword with split physical and holy damage. They do not establish a complete, comparable stat or build profile for both forms, so there is not enough here to call either sword universally stronger.
