To update Minecraft Bedrock on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, open Microsoft Store, select Check for Updates, and install any update offered for Minecraft for Windows. The Minecraft Launcher is a separate app: start it to check for its own update, or update it from the Store’s Library if it does not update automatically.
Update the Minecraft game through Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store from the Windows Start menu.
- Select Check for Updates. Microsoft says this checks installed Store apps and games for available updates: Microsoft Support: Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store.
- If Minecraft appears in the results, install the offered update and wait for the Store to finish.
For PC, the Bedrock game is listed as Minecraft for Windows. The PC bundle may be labeled Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition; Java and Bedrock are separate editions, so make sure you are checking the Windows game rather than assuming a Launcher update also updates the game. Update the Minecraft Launcher separately
The Launcher is not the Bedrock game itself. Minecraft says the Launcher should update when you start it. If it does not, open Microsoft Store, select Library, and update the Launcher there. The Launcher and the PC game are presented as separate items on Minecraft’s download page.
If Microsoft Store will not open or install an update
Microsoft’s general Store troubleshooting steps may help with Store access; they are not guaranteed fixes for every Minecraft update error.

- Reset the Store cache: Press the Windows key, type
wsreset.exe, and run it. Microsoft lists this as a step when Microsoft Store will not open: Microsoft Support: Microsoft Store doesn’t open. - Check for Windows updates: Microsoft recommends checking for system updates when an app cannot be found or installed from Store: Microsoft Support: I can’t find or install an app from Microsoft Store.
- Restart after a recent Windows update: Microsoft notes that a restart may be needed before Store app installation works after a Windows update.
If Minecraft continues to show a specific error or the game update is not offered, contact Minecraft Support or Microsoft Support with the error details. The published Store guidance does not establish one universal fix for every Bedrock update failure.
If you meant installing or updating the Launcher
Minecraft Help lists the Xbox app and Minecraft.net as alternative ways to install the Launcher if Store installation fails. The Minecraft.net installation route still requires signing in to Microsoft Store. Windows 10 support status
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided after that date. This is an operating-system support change; it does not by itself establish that Minecraft updates stopped working on Windows 10. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 information.
