If Warframe keeps crashing on your Windows PC, start with the launcher’s Verify and Optimize tools, then update Windows and device drivers. Next, use graphics settings and a temporary clean-boot test to narrow down the cause. No single step is a guaranteed fix; the pattern of the crash can help determine what to try next.
Start by repairing Warframe’s game files
Use the standalone Warframe launcher to check for damaged or missing files before changing broader system settings. Warframe Support says Verify compares installed files with the game’s content delivery network and repairs or replaces files when needed.
- Open the Warframe launcher and select the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Verify and wait for the check to finish.
- When it completes, select Optimize and let that process finish too.
For the full official crash checklist, see Warframe Support: What should I do if my game keeps crashing?
Update Windows and device drivers
Install pending Windows updates and current drivers for your graphics card. If you do not know which graphics adapter is installed, search Windows for Dxdiag, open it, and check the first Display tab.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors#1 Best Overall
- Laptop: Check the laptop manufacturer’s support site for a graphics driver. Some laptops use a specialized driver supplied by the manufacturer.
- Desktop: Get the driver from the vendor of the installed graphics card.
- Other devices: Check audio, network, and wireless drivers as well; Warframe Support identifies these as potential update targets.
Use the crash pattern to choose the next test
The official guidance does not identify one universal cause for Warframe crashes. These checks are diagnostic: a change in crash behavior can help narrow the possibilities, but it does not establish a root cause by itself.
If Warframe crashes at startup or after an update
Complete the launcher’s Verify and Optimize steps first. Then check for Windows and graphics-driver updates. If the crash continues, temporarily lower graphics quality and test the launcher’s other available graphics API option.
If Warframe crashes during a mission
Lower the quality preset or graphics intensity in Settings > Video, then play long enough to see whether the crash pattern changes. Warframe Support lists DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 (Beta) as supported options; test the other option in launcher settings if it is available to you. Neither API is presented as a universal fix.

If other games crash too, or the whole PC is unstable
Update system drivers and consider the broader Windows and drive checks below. If you have an Intel 13th- or 14th-generation processor, see the specific branch later in this guide; that clue matters most when other games also crash.

Programs that monitor or modify system, disk, or network activity can be isolated temporarily. Warframe points players to Microsoft’s clean-boot instructions for preventing nonessential software from starting. Follow those instructions, test Warframe, and then restore the normal startup configuration. Do not leave the PC in a diagnostic startup state as a permanent setting.
Also unplug nonessential external devices for a test. Warframe notes that an outdated controller driver can be one possible issue. If removing a particular device changes the behavior, update or reinstall its driver, or consult that device’s manufacturer.

Check Windows files and the drive when symptoms warrant it
Warframe Support recommends Windows System File Checker to inspect and attempt to repair corrupt Windows files. It also recommends checking the hard drive for errors when the PC is slow or buggy in addition to crashing. These are broader system checks, not proof that every game crash is caused by Windows corruption or a failing drive.
Check whether the PC meets Warframe’s listed minimum requirements
Warframe Support lists these PC minimums. Meeting them is not a guarantee that a system will be crash-free; background applications and laptop-versus-desktop differences can affect performance.
| Component | Listed minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-860 or AMD FX-4170 with SSE4.2 |
| Memory | 4 GB system RAM |
| Graphics | DirectX 11-compatible video card |
| Storage | 75 GB free hard-drive space |
| Internet | Broadband internet |
Warframe Support says DirectX 12 support requires Windows 10 version 20H2 or Windows 11. The listed minimums are on Warframe Support: Minimum PC specifications.

Use the Intel CPU branch only when it fits
Warframe Support describes reports of crashes involving nvgpucomp64.dll, an Nvidia driver component, concentrated among systems with Intel 13th- and 14th-generation processors. The page says Digital Extremes aggregated “hundreds of reports,” but that figure is not a measured estimate of how common the issue is among all players.
In one staff case, updating BIOS stopped the observed crashes after Windows and drivers had been updated and overlays disabled. Warframe says it is not certain that the same issue caused the crashes described in Intel’s report. Consider a BIOS update only if you have a 13th- or 14th-generation Intel CPU, Warframe and other games crash, and you have completed other updates. BIOS updates are specific to the computer or motherboard: consult its manufacturer for the correct instructions and update before proceeding. See Warframe Support: Intel 13th &14th Gen CPU Crashing.
Send crash details and logs to Warframe Support
If the Evolution Engine Crash Reporter appears, complete the report, describe what you were doing when the crash occurred, and save the returned WAR-###### identifier.
