Dual Blades work best when you stay close, keep attacking to build the Demon Gauge, and save your longest combo for a clear opening. Demon Mode boosts pressure but drains stamina; once your gauge is full, Archdemon Mode gives you powerful options that also consume that gauge. Manage both resources so you can keep moving and evade.
Dual Blades controls and platform defaults
The controls below are PlayStation defaults; bindings can differ by platform or personal settings. On Xbox, the guide maps the corresponding face buttons to Y, B and A, with shoulder triggers and bumpers for the other inputs. Check your control settings and the in-game Hunter’s Notes for the current mapping. The guide was last updated September 29, 2026, and notes that controls and move performance can change with updates. Capcom’s official overview describes Dual Blades as agile and built for rapid damage.

How Demon Mode, the Demon Gauge and Archdemon Mode work
Build the gauge in Demon Mode
Activate Demon Mode to increase offensive pressure. It continuously drains stamina, while landing attacks in the mode fills the Demon Gauge. When the gauge fills, leaving Demon Mode activates Archdemon Mode.

Spend Archdemon Mode deliberately
Archdemon Mode unlocks stronger special attacks, including Demon Flurry, but its gauge drains over time and can be spent by those attacks. Re-enter Demon Mode when you need to refill it; do not spend every available special move automatically. Choose based on the monster’s position and how long the opening is likely to last.
A practical Dual Blades fight loop
- Position close to the part you want to hit. Dual Blades have short reach, so stay near the monster and keep your attacks on a useful part.
- Enter Demon Mode and build the gauge. Attack while it is active, but monitor stamina as well as the gauge.
- Leave Demon Mode before stamina is exhausted. Recover rather than spending the resource you need to evade safely.
- Use Archdemon Mode attacks when the opening and gauge allow. Consider the monster’s movement and the gauge cost before committing to a special attack.
- Return to Demon Mode as needed. Use it to refill the gauge, then repeat the cycle while keeping enough stamina for movement and evasion.

Use shorter attacks while the monster is active
When the monster is moving or likely to attack, favor brief strikes and repositioning. Dual Blades reward staying in range, but chasing a long sequence through a changing position can leave you committed at the wrong time.

Extend Blade Dance during a long opening
Blade Dance is a commitment. If you are unsure how long the opening will last, start with the first stage and stop rather than automatically continuing. Extend into later stages when a topple or another long opening gives you time to finish.
Use Demon Dodge for evasion and repositioning
Demon Dodge can avoid an incoming attack and help you move around the monster. A precisely timed evade triggers a brief offensive boost. It does not remove the need to manage stamina: if Demon Mode drains you too far, you may lack the stamina needed to dodge.

Use Focus Strike: Turning Tide on wounds
Focus Strike: Turning Tide requires a wound and destroys wounds it contacts. Line it up when you want that immediate effect, and consider the alternate follow-up described in the guide if you want to end the traversal sooner and stay near the part. Because the wound is consumed, weigh the immediate Focus Strike against leaving it available for ordinary attacks that benefit from the wound.

- Rapid hits: The high hit count can support elemental and status buildup.
- Close-range pressure: The weapon is agile and suited to rapid damage, but its short reach makes positioning important.
- Stamina discipline: Demon Mode continuously drains stamina, so you must balance attacking with the ability to move and evade.
- Resource choices: Demon Gauge powers Archdemon Mode attacks, so the timing of special moves matters as much as having access to them.
These general strengths do not establish one universally best build or matchup. Adapt your attacks and resource use to the monster’s movement and the openings it gives you.
