Beat Chronos by staying patient in Phase 1, attacking during his recovery windows, and moving straight to the illuminated safe area when Phase 2 darkens the arena. Avoid sand traps that could stop you reaching safety. A ranged weapon can make it easier to keep your distance, but no single weapon is established as the best choice.
Prepare for a fight built around timing
Choose a weapon and boon setup you can use consistently. Favor attacks that let you deal damage during short openings without leaving you stuck in a long animation or too close to Chronos. Ranged weapons are one practical option: they can make dodging easier while letting you continue to attack from farther away. They are not a guaranteed best build.
How to handle Phase 1
Phase 1 ends when Chronos’s first health bar is depleted. Until then, watch his windups and attack pattern rather than rushing in. Evade active attacks, then use the brief moments when he is not attacking to land hits.
- Do not trade blows while Chronos is in the middle of an attack.
- Dash through his attacks when needed; the cited tactical guide says his attacks can be dashed through during Phase 1.
- Return to offense during recovery, and stop attacking when a new windup begins.
Phase 2: respond to the arena blackout
When the first health bar empties, expect Phase 2 and pay closer attention to the arena itself. If the arena goes dark, immediately move to the highlighted illuminated area: it is the safe position for this attack. Do not linger to finish an attack when the warning appears.

Watch for sand traps as you reposition. They can make movement impossible, so getting caught in one may prevent you from reaching the safe area. Once the immediate hazard has passed, resume attacking during openings.
Ranged or melee: choose the style you can use safely
Ranged attacks can make it easier to maintain distance and dodge while continuing to deal damage. Melee is still viable if you can get in, attack during Chronos’s recovery, and get clear before his next attack. The available guidance does not rank specific weapons or aspects, so judge your setup by how safely it can reach openings, how quickly its attacks resolve, and how much movement they demand.

What to know about patches
Supergiant’s official Hades II Steam announcements include a July 28 Post-Launch Patch 2 Hotfix 5 entry fixing a case where Chronos could become noninteractive in Erebus after switching Keepsakes. That note documents a specific bug fix; it does not establish the game’s current version or indicate that the fight’s tactics have changed. The tactical guide used for the advice above described the game as Early Access when published, so exact balance and behavior may differ in later builds.
