You can create Minecraft content without writing code by using guided creator tools to make a Bedrock Edition Add-On. Choose a resource pack for visual changes or a behavior pack for gameplay changes, then activate it in the world where you want to use it. Minecraft Education’s MakeCode is another beginner option, but it uses visual block coding and is a separate workflow. These instructions do not establish a no-code mod-making path for Java Edition.
First, check which Minecraft edition you use
The creation and activation instructions below are for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Bedrock Add-Ons use resource packs and behavior packs. Java Edition has a different modding ecosystem; do not treat a Bedrock Add-On file or wizard project as a Java mod.

Minecraft Help describes Add-Ons as content that can add “custom blocks, items, mobs, recipes, and other game content” to new or existing Bedrock worlds. See Minecraft Help’s Add-On activation guide for the supported world and Realm workflows.
Choose what you want to change
- Appearance: Start with a resource pack if you want to change how game content looks.
- Gameplay or behavior: Start with a behavior pack if you want to change what content does.
- A block or mob: The Block Wizard and Entity Wizard offer guided starting points for creating these kinds of content.
Minecraft’s Add-On creator tutorials and FAQ cover resource and behavior packs, custom blocks, mobs, and related Bedrock creation questions.

Use visual tools to build a first Add-On
Block Wizard
The Block Wizard provides a preset-based route to creating a block and setting its properties. It can be a practical first project if you want to add a custom block without beginning with code.
Entity Wizard
The Entity Wizard starts from vanilla templates and offers customization of geometry, textures, animations, and behaviors such as loot drops and spawn rules. It is a guided workflow for making a custom entity, rather than a promise that every possible mob change can be completed without technical work.

Blockbench
Minecraft’s creator tools page describes Blockbench as a tool for modeling, texturing, and animation for Minecraft entities, blocks, and items. It is free and open source, with web and downloadable apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Minecraft identifies it as an external tool made by third-party contributors, not by Mojang or Microsoft.
For official tutorials and tool documentation, start at Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock Creator Documentation. It includes getting-started material, wizard tutorials, resource- and behavior-pack guides, and more advanced references.

Test the pack, then activate it in your world
Once your Add-On is ready, activate it in the Bedrock world where you intend to play. Minecraft Help describes separate workflows for new single-player worlds, existing single-player worlds, and Realms:
- New world: Open the world’s settings and activate the Add-On under Resource packs or Behavior packs, as appropriate.
- Existing single-player world: Open that world’s settings and activate the pack in the relevant pack section.
- Realm: Select the Realm world slot, activate the Add-On, and wait for the upload to finish.
Use the current instructions in Minecraft Help for your edition and device; menu labels and paths can vary.

Is Minecraft Education MakeCode a no-code option?
It is a beginner-friendly, coding-assisted option, not strictly no-code. MakeCode uses visual block coding through Code Builder in Minecraft Education. Microsoft’s MakeCode setup guide says you need a Minecraft Education license and must turn cheats on in the world to use MakeCode features. The documented route is to create a world, enable cheats, open Code Builder, choose Microsoft MakeCode, then start a project or tutorial.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What about Java Edition?
The official workflows described here establish Bedrock Add-On creation and Minecraft Education MakeCode; they do not establish an equivalent current visual, no-code Java mod-making workflow. If you play Java Edition, confirm your exact game version, the mod loader and tool compatibility, and the current installation instructions before downloading anything. Do not install a Bedrock .mcpack as though it were a Java mod.

Would you rather play with mods than make one?
If by “mod Minecraft” you mean adding content to a world rather than creating it yourself, you can use existing Add-Ons. Minecraft points players to free Add-Ons, customized worlds, and Marketplace content; availability and listings may vary, so check the current listing for your platform. The same activation guide explains how to enable Add-Ons in supported worlds and Realms.
Where a visual workflow stops being no-code
Wizard-based creation can reduce the need to write code, but deeper customization may require more technical work. Microsoft’s Creator Documentation also includes scripting APIs, JSON references, and schema documentation. If a project calls for those tools, it has moved beyond a purely click-through workflow.
