To play a public 1v1, tap Battle and the game will match you with an opponent. To challenge someone you know, open Social, select that friend, and start a Friendly Battle. You can also start a friendly match through Clan Chat or scan a nearby player’s Quickplay QR code.
Choose the kind of 1v1 you want

How to start a public 1v1
- Open Clash Royale and tap Battle.
- Wait for matchmaking to find an opponent, then play the match.
This is the option for earning Trophy Road progress. Matchmaking considers your Trophy count; Supercell says card levels and deck contents are not taken into account. Since Trophy Road does not cap King Tower or card levels, a higher-level deck can matter in the match itself.
How to challenge a friend or clanmate
From the Social tab
- Open the Social tab.
- Select the friend you want to play.
- Start a Friendly Battle and choose 1v1.
From Clan Chat
- Open your clan’s chat.
- Start a Friendly Battle challenge and select 1v1.
- Wait for the other player to accept and join.
Friendly Battles are for playing someone directly rather than progressing on Trophy Road. Supercell also lists 2v2 as available through Clan Chat and rotating Special Battles among friendly options. Check Supercell’s current Friendly Battle guidance if the available choices differ in your client.
How to play a nearby player with Quickplay
Supercell’s March 2026 release notes describe scanning another player’s Quickplay QR code to start a friendly match. Quickplay includes 1v1 and other modes; its stated match level cap is Level 11. The exact controls may depend on the current game client, so use the Quickplay QR option shown in-game.

How to practice before a match
Training Camp
Open the menu on the battle screen and choose Training Camp to play a practice duel using your current deck against a bot.
Practice Mode
Open a previous opponent from the Battle Log and launch Practice Mode. It uses that opponent’s deck and card levels. Supercell says Training Camp and Practice Mode neither award nor remove resources. Supercell’s practice-mode guidance.

Beginner tips for your first 1v1
- Look for positive Elixir trades. Countering an attack for less Elixir than your opponent spent can leave you with more resources to build your next play. Supercell’s example is using The Log against Goblin Barrel.
- Track your card cycle. After you play a card, you need to play four other cards before it returns to your hand. Knowing this helps you plan when a key card will be available again.
- Include a way to damage towers. A deck needs a reliable way to threaten the opponent’s towers, not only defensive cards.
- Support your pushes. Sending units together with suitable support can make an attack harder to stop than deploying them without a plan.
- Choose when to defend. Spending heavily to save a tower is not always worthwhile; weigh the Elixir cost against what you can do next.
- Review replays. Watching a match again can help identify decisions to change. Card strength and effective decks can shift with balance updates, so these principles are more durable than any fixed deck recommendation.
