Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Reforge improves an individual gear item; Refine upgrades a gear slot. That distinction determines what happens when you replace equipment: Reforge Perfection stays with the old item, while Refinement remains on the slot. Reforging uses Reforge Stones. Refining uses slot-specific materials and can fail at higher levels, though the cited guide says Blessing with Mech Shards can raise its success chance to 100%.
The detailed upgrade instructions below come from Prydwen’s guide, last updated January 15, 2026. Because it predates later seasons, treat its exact costs, menus and level examples as guidance to verify in your current game—not as a definitive October 2026 endgame specification.
Reforge and Refine: what each system upgrades
| System | What it upgrades | What happens when you change gear | Main resource or risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reforge | An item’s Perfection and its reforge attribute | Perfection stays on the individual item; it does not transfer to a replacement | Reforge Stones |
| Refine | The stats of a gear slot | The refinement upgrade stays with the slot when the item changes | Starforge Crystals, the correct Mystic Metal and Bound Luno; higher-level attempts can fail |
The distinction is especially important before investing in a piece you expect to replace. Reforge is item-bound; Refine is slot-bound, according to Prydwen’s gear upgrade guide.
How to Reforge gear
Use Reforge Stones to improve an item
Visit Maxim, the NPC identified by the guide for gear upgrading and dismantling, and use Reforge Stones on the equipment item. Reforging raises that item’s Perfection. Perfection belongs to that specific piece, so it will not move to another item when you equip a replacement.

Unlock and reroll the third Advanced Attribute
Reforging also unlocks a third random Advanced Attribute. The guide says this attribute can be rerolled with Reforge Stones, including after the item reaches its Perfection cap. It also says dismantling can recover most of the Reforge Stones invested, but it does not say that Perfection itself is recoverable or transferable.
A July 26, 2026 update to the community-maintained BP Events gear database describes later-season Gold gear’s special purple affixes as “Rare Stats.” It says eligible items can select a replacement effect from the applicable pool. The database is not an official game source, so check the current item and in-game options before spending stones on a specific Rare Stat.

How to Refine gear slots
Know which stats each slot receives
Refinement belongs to the slot, not the item occupying it. Prydwen’s guide groups the slots this way:
- Stamina plus Refined Armor: helmet, armor, gauntlets, boots, and left and right bracelets.
- Refined ATK: weapon, earrings, necklace, ring, and charm.
This means replacing a helmet or weapon does not remove the Refinement upgrade from its slot, unlike item-bound Reforge Perfection.

Pay the materials and account for failure
The January 15, 2026 guide lists Starforge Crystals, the correct Mystic Metal, and Bound Luno as Refinement costs. It says costs rise by level, success is guaranteed at low levels, and the chance starts declining on the level 5-to-6 step. Its example for refining from level 13 to 14 gives a 65% success chance. A failed attempt consumes the resources.
Those figures describe the guide’s version, not a confirmed October 2026 rate table. Check the live Refinement screen for the current cost and success chance before committing resources.

Use Blessing to remove the failure chance
The guide says Buri Mech Shards and/or Moss Mech Shards can be added through Blessing to raise a Refinement attempt’s success chance to 100%. It describes Mech Shards as craftable by players and Starforge Crystals as not craftable. Verify current recipes and the Blessing interface in-game, since these details may change between seasons.

Sigil embedding is not the same as Reforge or Refine. Each gear piece accepts one Sigil, which adds attributes. Embedding costs Bound Luno and gemcores. Replacing an embedded Sigil destroys the old one, and salvaging the gear does not refund the Sigil or embedding materials.

Check season-specific gear details before investing
Gear levels, stat pools, drops and upgrade materials are season-dependent. Prydwen’s January 15, 2026 guide covers Season 2 Gear Breakthrough, including Dreamer’s Stardust for level 140–150 gear and Weaver’s Stardust for level 160–170 gear, with materials then available through the Honor Coin shop or raids. These are historical details, not confirmation of the October 2026 level cap or current material sources.
The BP Events database, last updated July 26, 2026, covers dungeon gear across Seasons 1–4, stat availability by slot, and later Gold gear Rare Stats. It is community-maintained. Use it as a reference, then confirm the item, season and available options in the live game before choosing gear or spending upgrade materials.
