Which PC version of Rocket League do you use?
Check whether you launch Rocket League through Steam or the Epic Games Store. The available avatar setting depends on that platform:

Change your avatar on the Steam version
Use Steam’s profile-editing controls to change your community avatar. The result is a Steam profile-avatar change; the official guidance does not guarantee that every Rocket League screen, or players on other platforms, will show it.
If editing through the Steam client is not working, Steam Support says to check these conditions:

- Make sure Steam is not in Offline Mode.
- Make sure you are signed into Friends & Chat.

Can you change the avatar on the Epic Games Store version?
No. Rocket League Support states, “Changing the in-game avatar is not possible with the Epic Games Store version of Rocket League.” Epic Games Store Support also says profile pictures or avatars are not currently available for Epic Games accounts. In other words, there is no supported Epic account or in-game setting to use for this change.

Does a Steam avatar appear to every Rocket League player?
That is not established by the official sources cited here. Rocket League enables cross-platform progression through linked platform accounts and an Epic Games account, and cross-platform play is available, but those facts do not establish that a Steam avatar appears identically in every Rocket League interface or to players on other platforms. Rocket League’s August 11, 2020 account-linking explanation covers progression and inventory, while its cross-platform play support page addresses matching across platforms.

What about mods or replacing game files?
Third-party modifications and manual file changes are not official, guaranteed ways to change an account avatar. The official support guidance confirms the Epic limitation and the Steam profile option; it does not establish the safety, compatibility, or terms status of modifications for this purpose.
