To download the 2022 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II on PC, sign in to the official store or launcher account that owns the game and install it from your library. Activision lists Battle.net, Steam and Microsoft Store installation steps; the official Call of Duty store also links to Xbox PC. You need the game entitlement on the account you use—downloading it does not make the paid game free.
Make sure you have the right Modern Warfare II
This guide covers the 2022 game officially titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, not the original 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Campaign Remastered. Install it from your PC store or launcher
Use the account and storefront where you bought the game. Activision’s installation guide, updated June 30, 2026, gives these steps:
Battle.net
- Open Battle.net and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Select All Games, then choose Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
- Select Install and follow the prompts.
Steam
- Open Steam and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Open Library and select Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
- Select Install and follow the prompts.
Microsoft Store on PC
- Open Microsoft Store and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Go to Library > My Library.
- Select the Download icon next to the game.
Activision also says owners can open the Call of Duty experience, go to All Games, select Modern Warfare II to reach their platform store, and download it there. Check ownership before troubleshooting
If the game is missing from your library, first make sure you are signed into the same store account that purchased it. If you do not own it on that account, use an official storefront’s purchase flow before trying to install. The official Call of Duty store links to Xbox PC, Battle.net and Steam; availability and prices can vary by region. Do not assume a purchase on one PC storefront transfers to another. Check PC requirements and storage
Activision’s minimum requirements below are for desktop PCs. Its support page cautions that laptop graphics can use different models and may not be supported, so check the exact GPU model in your laptop rather than relying on a similar name. Activision’s PC system requirements
- Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit, latest update.
- Processor: Intel Core i3-6100 or Core i5-2500K, or AMD Ryzen 3 1200.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM.
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 470, with 2 GB video memory.
- Hi-Rez Assets Cache: up to 32 GB, according to Activision.

If the download or game does not work
- The game is not in your library: Check that you are signed into the account and storefront where you own it. If it is not owned on that account, use the official store’s purchase option.
- Install is unavailable or the download will not start: Check free disk space against the current store listing and install available launcher or store updates. Download time depends on your connection and the current package, so there is no reliable universal duration.
