Steamworks result code 29 means a request duplicated an action that had already happened, so Steam ignored the repeat. But the phrase “Steam error 29” does not by itself confirm that you are seeing this specific result. Check where the message appeared and what you were doing before choosing a fix.
What Steam error 29 means
In the Steamworks API reference, result 29 is k_EResultDuplicateRequest: “The request is a duplicate and the action has already occurred in the past, ignored this time.” Steamworks API: EResult

EResult values are returned by functions, callbacks, and Web API calls. Their meaning depends on the API context, so this definition does not prove that every message a player calls “Steam error 29” refers to result 29—or that there is one universal Steam client dialog for it.
Identify which problem you have
- Record the full message. Take a screenshot or copy the wording exactly; a number alone may not identify the error.
- Note where it appeared. Was it in the Steam client, a game, a purchase or redemption flow, or a feature powered by Steamworks?
- Write down what you did immediately before it appeared. This helps distinguish a repeated request from an installation, update, or connectivity problem.
If the message indicates a duplicate request
If the context confirms Steamworks result 29, Steam has already handled the action and ignored the repeated request. Avoid repeatedly retrying the same action. The official reference defines the result but does not provide a dedicated end-user repair procedure for it.

If the action still appears incomplete, contact Steam Support with the exact message, where it appeared, and what you were trying to do.

- Restart Steam and your computer.
- Clear the Steam download cache.
- Try a different download region.
- If the problem continues, reinstall Steam to the same location. Steam says this preserves installed games.
Do not confuse reinstalling Steam to the same location with uninstalling it: Steam warns that uninstalling deletes game content. Preserve your game files and follow Steam’s same-location reinstall guidance if you reach that step.
If the problem looks like a connection or server issue

- Try a different, relatively close download region.
- Check whether a firewall, antivirus program, router, or internet connection is interfering with Steam.
- Check Steam network status for an outage.
- If your network uses a DMZ setting, disable it; Steam says it does not support connecting through a network DMZ.
What to send Steam Support
If the issue persists, submit a request through Steam Support. Include the complete error text or a screenshot, where it appeared, the action that triggered it, when the problem began, and the relevant troubleshooting steps you tried. Valve directs users to Steam Support for Steam technical-support requests.
