It is an uncommon world-generation object, not a roaming enemy: it can replace an Antlion Egg when the world is created or when an egg regrows.
Where to find Digtoise
Search the Underground Desert for a block-like object called Sleeping Digtoise. You do not need to defeat or catch a creature; the sleeping object itself is what you collect.

Use a Metal Detector to help locate it, or a Spelunker Potion to highlight it. Once you find the object, mine it with a pickaxe to obtain the Digtoise summon item.
How rare is Sleeping Digtoise?
The Official Terraria Wiki lists two replacement chances: a Sleeping Digtoise has a 1-in-30 (3.33%) chance to generate in place of an Antlion Egg during world generation, and a 1-in-100 (1%) chance to replace an Antlion Egg when one regrows. These are chances for each replacement event—not the odds of finding one in a particular cave or trip. Official Terraria Wiki: Digtoise

Because the object is uncommon, keep searching the Underground Desert rather than treating one empty area as proof that the world has none.
How to summon and use Digtoise
- Mine Sleeping Digtoise with a pickaxe to collect its item.
- Use the Digtoise item to summon the helper. Its tooltip reads, “Summons Digtoise to help mining!”
- While holding the item, use the attack/use input to direct Digtoise.
- Interact away from Digtoise to recall it, or interact directly with it to pet it.
Digtoise is a pre-Hardmode pet summon that can assist with mining, but its base pickaxe-power equivalent is 26%. It therefore cannot mine every block; it is a helper, not a substitute for the pickaxe power needed to break tougher materials.

Platform and version availability
The Official Terraria Wiki labels Digtoise as available on Desktop, Console, and Mobile, and lists its introduction in Desktop 1.4.5.0, Console 1.4.5, Switch 1.4.5, and Mobile 1.4.5. The same page records a Desktop 1.4.5.7 change that allows upgrading to Trusty Digtoise with a Little Kinship Peach.
