Press / to open in-experience chat, type an emote command such as /e wave, then press Enter. Roblox also provides an Emotes menu and, in some experiences, an emote wheel.
How to use a Roblox emote command on keyboard
- While playing, press / to open in-experience chat.
- Type an emote command in the format
/efollowed by the emote name. - Press Enter or Return to send the command and play the emote.
Roblox lists these default commands on its Animation System (Emotes) help page:
/e wave/e point/e cheer/e laugh/e dance/e dance2/e dance3
How to use the Emotes menu or wheel
If you would rather choose an emote than type a command, open the hamburger menu in the upper-left corner and select Emotes to view the default emotes. Roblox’s Experience Controls documentation also describes an Emotes control that toggles the emote wheel. The controls available can vary by experience.
What to do if the emote command does not work
Chat does not open with the slash key
Pressing / normally opens chat. On some international keyboard layouts, Roblox suggests trying the backslash key () instead. Changing the keyboard’s region settings is another possible workaround, but Roblox warns that it may affect how other programs behave. See its Experience Chat help page.

The command is not accepted
The chat-command method requires in-experience chat to be enabled. Roblox states that emote commands are unavailable when chat is disabled. The experience may also lack chat or an emote control; check the hamburger menu to see which features that experience enables.
