For a controller, update the game and review stick sensitivity, input curves, and deadzones. Then check whether the symptom is actually caused by low or uneven frame rates, a recent mod, or a particular save or session rather than delayed input itself.
First, identify what feels delayed
Input lag means a delay between an input and the game’s response, but it can be hard to distinguish from a low or inconsistent frame rate, visual stutter, or a controller setting that makes the character or camera feel sluggish. The official sources do not give a universal test that separates these symptoms on every platform.
- Mouse and keyboard: Check the mouse settings first, especially if aiming or camera movement feels delayed.
- Controller: Check stick sensitivity, input curves, and deadzones; sensitivity fixes have also appeared in PC patch notes.
- Performance symptoms: Note whether the problem appears during aiming or shooting, after a long session, or only after a game update or mod change. These clues can help identify what to check next, but do not prove a particular cause.
Fix mouse-and-keyboard input lag
- Open the game’s control settings and find the mouse options.
- Make sure Mouse Smoothing and Mouse Acceleration are disabled.
- Test camera movement and aiming again. If you have changed sensitivity, keep your preferred value consistent while testing rather than changing several settings at once.
In its December 3, 2024 patch 1.0.3 notes, GSC Game World said it adjusted these parameters to decrease keyboard-and-mouse input lag and made both disabled by default. The same patch set default camera sensitivity to 25% and aim sensitivity to 15%; those are historical defaults, not values every player needs to use.
Avoid relying on unofficial Engine.ini edits, console variables, or driver-profile recipes as approved fixes: the official sources cited here do not verify them for the current game version.

Fix controller response
First, update the game. The official Steam announcements page says patch 2.0.5 fixed excessive left- and right-stick sensitivity on PC. That fix is a reason to check your version if controller movement feels unusually sensitive; it does not establish one ideal sensitivity value for everyone.
The official Night of the Hunter showcase describes adjustable controller stick input curves and presets, and refers to stick deadzones introduced in earlier updates. Review those options in the game’s controller settings and try the available presets or adjustments one at a time. The cited material does not identify a universal curve, sensitivity, or deadzone value.

Check NVIDIA Reflex if you play on PC
NVIDIA says S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 supports NVIDIA Reflex. In a November 19, 2024 article, NVIDIA reported that enabling Reflex can reduce PC latency by up to 45%. That is NVIDIA’s maximum vendor-published claim, not a guaranteed result for every PC, graphics card, scene, driver, or settings combination. If the option is available in your game settings, you can try enabling it and assess the response on your own system.
NVIDIA also discusses DLSS 3 Frame Generation, but the available official material does not establish a universal recommendation for Frame Generation, V-Sync, or frame caps as input-lag fixes. Avoid treating any one setting or value for those options as authoritative across systems.

Update the game and check for mod-related problems
The official announcements page reviewed here listed patch 2.0.6 on September 18, 2026, describing it as a minor crash-fix update that included several AMD GPU-related crash fixes. Its notes also identify the PC controller-sensitivity fix in patch 2.0.5. Because updates can change which issues are addressed, check the game’s current announcements and install available updates before applying old community tweaks.
If the problem started after installing or updating a mod, the official announcements recommend disabling mods when performance or stability problems occur after an update. Test the game without the affected mods before changing other settings.

Consider whether the issue is tied to a session or save
Some earlier performance problems were addressed in specific updates. GSC’s March 10, 2025 patch 1.1.4 notes cite fixes for shader-compilation crashes or freezes, a Rostok memory leak, and performance degradation while shooting or aiming on saves with long playtime. Those historical fixes do not show that a current lag problem has the same cause, but they demonstrate why game version and save or session context can matter.
If the symptom reliably appears while shooting or aiming, or after a long session, note when it begins and whether it affects one save or multiple saves. That information may help when you report the problem; it is not a substitute for checking input settings and updates first.

Contact official support if the problem persists
If updating the game, checking the relevant input settings, and testing without recent mods do not help, use the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Technical Support Center. Include your platform, game version, input device, when the delay occurs, and whether it began after an update, mod change, or long session.
