Before committing, consider the role you need and inspect the pawn’s inclination and any knowledge marker for your active quest. These details are useful signals, not guarantees of how a pawn will behave or whether it can solve a quest for you. Exact Rift Crystal costs and level-difference pricing are not established in Capcom’s cited information, so check the in-game hiring screen for the current cost.
Choose roles for the task
- If your Arisen is focused on close combat, a support-oriented companion can help keep allies standing while another party member covers a different combat role.
- If you expect a difficult fight, prioritize a mix that helps your party survive and deal with enemies, rather than selecting companions solely for exploration.
- When traveling and gathering, a pawn inclined to explore may better suit the trip than one that tends to rush into combat.
These are ways to think through a party, not fixed builds: the right combination depends on your vocation and what you are doing.

What do pawn inclinations do?
Capcom describes four inclinations as broad behavioral tendencies. They can help you anticipate a pawn’s usual priorities, but do not dictate every action in every situation.

How do I choose a pawn for a quest?
Check the markers beside the quest list when comparing pawns. A blue marker means your Main Pawn may be able to guide you or provide useful information; orange I and II markers indicate the first and second support pawns may have relevant knowledge. The markers suggest possible help, not a promise that a pawn will lead you through or complete the quest.
Use the marker as one selection factor alongside the role you need. If more than one pawn has a relevant marker, compare which pawn’s knowledge matches the quest and which one fits your party. Capcom explains the markers in its FAQ.

How do I change my Main Pawn’s inclination?
Capcom lists two ways to change your Main Pawn’s inclination: use an Art of Metamorphosis, or speak to the Main Pawn while camping when you have the appropriate Rift Incense. Art of Metamorphosis can be obtained in-game at the Pawn Guild. Check Capcom’s all-platforms FAQ for the official options.
How do I get other players to hire my pawn?
- Make sure Network Features are enabled. If you began playing offline, open Pause Menu > System > Options > Network and enable them.
- While connected to the network, rest at an inn to upload your Main Pawn’s information for other players.
- Allow time for the updated information to appear in other players’ games; Capcom says the update may not be immediate.
Pawn hiring is limited to players on the same platform. Capcom’s FAQ also describes sharing and rating Main Pawns and leaving a gift with a support pawn before dismissing it.

What are Pawn Quests, and what do rewards cost?
Pawn Quests let you ask the Arisen who hires your Main Pawn to perform a task. Set one at a riftstone, choose a reward, and make sure it is one you are willing to spend: Capcom says an item reward is removed from your inventory, while a gold reward is deducted from your funds. A quest can also ask the hiring Arisen to retrieve an item. You can view your current Pawn Quest in the Pawn section of the Status screen.

Can I play co-op with pawns?
No. Pawns can be shared and hired through network features, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not support online multiplayer. Capcom says offline play still allows a party of up to four characters; its cited FAQ does not detail the offline pawn pool. Pawn sharing should not be mistaken for another player joining your active adventure.
