Duet Night Abyss launched worldwide on October 28, 2025, as a free-to-play action RPG for PC and mobile. Its launch version removed character and weapon gacha as well as stamina restrictions, but it did not eliminate in-game purchases: characters and weapons had play-based acquisition routes, while shop purchases, cosmetics, and bundles remained part of the model.
Is Duet Night Abyss out now?
Yes. The publisher announced a worldwide launch for October 28, 2025, and launch-day materials listed PC, mobile, and the Epic Games Store. The game was described as supporting cross-platform play at launch. Those launch claims do not establish the current complete platform list or whether cross-play features have since changed.
The launch announcement also reported more than 15 million preregistrations. That is a company-reported preregistration figure leading into launch, not a count of active players or current users. Big Games Machine’s launch announcement described the game as free-to-play and presented it as a hybrid action RPG with a dual-protagonist story, melee and ranged weapons, and mobility abilities including a grappling hook, wall jump, sprint, and Helix Leap.
Does Duet Night Abyss have gacha?
Not for characters or weapons in the launch version. In August 2025, the publisher said it was removing character and weapon gacha, along with the Sanergy stamina system, before the global release. The change replaced randomized pulls for those categories with gameplay-based acquisition and direct shop routes; it did not mean that every item or feature was free.

How characters and weapons were obtained
The publisher said characters could be acquired as shards through the Secret Letter system or purchased directly in the shop. Weapons could be obtained for free by crafting, and launch materials said all characters and weapons could be unlocked by completing stages. Later U.S. App Store update notes likewise describe newer characters as available through Secret Letters or shop purchase. These descriptions concern the game’s stated acquisition routes; they do not establish the full current roster, shop catalogue, or prices.
What happened to stamina?
The launch version removed the Sanergy stamina system, and the launch announcement described play without stamina restrictions. This refers to the launch model; the cited materials do not establish whether every gameplay system or later update works identically.

How does Duet Night Abyss make money without character and weapon gacha?
It retained a shop. Later App Store update notes mention character purchases, cosmetic items, and bundles added to Lunotress’s Shop. So the change was from randomized character and weapon pulls toward direct or gameplay-based acquisition, not to a game with no monetization. The cited store notes do not provide a complete current list of paid items or their prices. Apple’s U.S. App Store listing and update notes document those shop categories.
Why did the developer change the system?
Producer Deca Bear told AUTOMATON WEST that the team reviewed beta player data, community feedback, and in-game survey results, and concluded that simply adjusting the old systems would not resolve player dissatisfaction. He said the aim was to give players more control. That is the producer’s explanation for the decision, not independent evidence that the new model improved retention, revenue, or the game’s long-term sustainability. What the monetization change does—and does not—mean
