In Java Edition, open the F3 debug screen and turn on chunk-border rendering in Debug Options. In Bedrock Edition, enable Show Coordinates and use the 16-by-16-block chunk grid to work out where chunk boundaries fall; a community add-on can provide a visible outline.
Java Edition: show chunk borders with Debug Options
Java Edition has built-in chunk-border rendering. Open the debug screen with F3, then open Debug Options and enable the chunk-border display. The shortcut for opening Debug Options has changed across versions: official notes for snapshot 25w31a describe F3+F5, while the Java 1.21.9 release notes identify F3+F6.

- Press F3 to open the debug screen.
- Open Debug Options. Try the shortcut shown by your installed version; if it differs or does not work, check the current controls or the options available from the debug screen.
- Enable chunk-border rendering in the options.
The F3 screen was reported as redesigned in Minecraft Java Edition 26.4 Snapshot 2 on September 29, 2026. A shortcut or screen layout can therefore depend on your version; the current Debug Options are the reliable place to check. See the 25w31a snapshot notes, Java 1.21.9 release notes, and 26.4 Snapshot 2 notes.
Bedrock Edition: locate chunks with coordinates
Bedrock players can turn on coordinates from the world settings: enable Show Coordinates. The display gives your X and Z positions, which you can use to identify the horizontal chunk grid. Microsoft Learn defines a chunk as 16 blocks wide by 16 blocks long, extending from the bottom to the top of the world. In practical terms, chunk boundaries repeat every 16 blocks along both X and Z.

This is a coordinate-based way to locate chunk positions, not an official built-in Bedrock border overlay. Minecraft’s exploration guide describes enabling coordinates in Bedrock world settings; Microsoft Learn explains the 16-by-16-block chunk dimensions. See Minecraft’s exploration guide and Microsoft Learn’s simulation and render distance guide.

If you want visible outlines in Bedrock, the community listing for Bedrock Chunk Visualizer describes an add-on that displays chunk borders. It is community software, not an official Minecraft feature. The listing showed version 1.2.0, released August 6, 2026, and support for multiple Minecraft versions when checked; consult the listing for current compatibility before installing.
