Fan-made How to Train Your Dragon mods are available for Minecraft Java Edition. The original Isle of Berk project targets Minecraft 1.18.2 with Forge and is marked discontinued; its successor, Dragons of Berk, lists releases for 1.20.1 with Forge and 1.21.1 with NeoForge. Choose a file that matches both your Minecraft version and mod loader. The official Minecraft DreamWorks DLC is a separate offering.
Which How to Train Your Dragon mod fits your Minecraft version?
These are Java Edition mods, so check your exact game version and loader before downloading. Forge and NeoForge are different loaders; a file for one should not be treated as a file for the other.
| Project | Version and loader listed | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Isle of Berk | Minecraft 1.18.2 with Forge | The original project; its Modrinth page marks it discontinued. View Isle of Berk on Modrinth. |
| Dragons of Berk | Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge; Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge | Describes itself as a remade successor. Confirm the exact file and loader on its project and files pages. Project page; Files page. |
| Archipelago Additions | Minecraft 1.18.2 with Forge 40.2.10 or later | An expansion for Isle of Berk, not a standalone replacement. Its page lists several required dependencies and additional setup. View Archipelago Additions on CurseForge. |
CurseForge search results also include similarly named projects, such as Hiccup’s Legacy for 1.20.1 Forge and How to Train Your Dragon Ultimate Mod for 1.12.2. These are distinct projects, not alternate names for Isle of Berk or Dragons of Berk. Check the project identity as well as version and loader when selecting a download. See CurseForge search results.
How to install the mod safely
- Check your edition and version. The cited projects are for Minecraft Java Edition. Note the exact game version shown by your installation.
- Identify the required loader. Check whether the selected file calls for Forge or NeoForge, then use that loader for the same Minecraft version.
- Choose a matching project file. Download from the project listing and verify that both its Minecraft version and loader match your setup.
- Install dependencies when required. For Archipelago Additions, the project lists Geckolib 1.18.2-3.0.46, Isle of Berk 1.18.2-1.2.0, Isle of Berk Variant Loader 1.18.2-2.5.6, and Isle of Berk Addons 1.18.2-1.1d, alongside Forge 40.2.10 or later.
- Follow the expansion’s world setup directions. Archipelago Additions says its new dragons will not spawn without modified configs. Apply the configs after the first load and before creating the world, as directed on its project page.
Archipelago Additions is incompatible with OptiFine, according to its project page. Check the current project listing and file requirements before installation, since supported files and dependencies can change.
