To hide player name tags in Minecraft Java Edition, create or choose a scoreboard team, set its nametagVisibility option to never, then add the players you want affected. For example, run these commands in order:
/team add hidden
/team modify hidden nametagVisibility never
/team join hidden <player>Replace <player> with a player name or selector. To assign all currently online players, use /team join hidden @a.

Set a team so its members’ tags are hidden

Open chat or the command interface and run
/team add hidden. If you already have a team you want to use, skip this step and substitute that team’s name in the commands below. -
Set the team’s name-tag visibility:
/team modify hidden nametagVisibility never.The Tool Desk

Assign the player or players:
/team join hidden <player>. To assign everyone currently online, run/team join hidden @a.
The person running the commands needs permission to use them. On a server, that generally means operator-level command access or equivalent permissions granted by the server software.

Choose whether tags are hidden from everyone or only across teams
never hides name tags for members of the configured team. The other visibility options support team-relative behavior:
alwaysis the default and displays the tags.hideForOtherTeamshides the tags from players on other teams.hideForOwnTeamhides the tags from players on the same team.
This is a team rule, not a local client display setting. To affect only one player, assign only that player to the team. To affect everyone, assign all current players; new arrivals may also need to be assigned by an administrator or a suitable server function.

Use the command that matches your Java Edition version
Modern Java Edition uses /team. Java Edition 1.13 replaced the older /scoreboard teams command with /team, and the former /scoreboard teams option became /team modify.
On versions earlier than 1.13, the equivalent legacy command is /scoreboard teams option <team> nametagVisibility never. Check in-game help for the syntax available in your specific release.

Know what the setting does not hide
The team visibility option is intended to control name-tag display for team members, but Mojang’s issue tracker documents an exception: setting visibility to never does not hide name displays on chest minecarts and similar non-living entities. Do not assume the option hides every custom entity name.
