Players have reported that a Hunter can look more or less upright while crouched depending on the weapon and whether the gun is lowered, at hip-fire, or aimed down sights (ADS). The report dates to December 2021; it is not a verified description of the current game, and recent patch notes do not confirm whether the exact behavior remains or has been fixed.
What the crouch-height report describes
A Reddit post published on December 30, 2021, summarizes testing attributed to Hunt content creator Huuge. It says the Hunter’s visible crouched posture can differ among some weapons and variants, and that the first-person camera does not always appear to match the model’s height. The practical concern is that a player may think low cover hides them while an opponent can see more of their Hunter. These are the poster’s claims, not independently verified measurements or a current controlled reproduction. Read the original player report.
The three states in the report
- Lowered weapon: The gun is not held ready to fire.
- Hip-fire: The weapon is held ready, without aiming down sights.
- ADS: The Hunter aims down sights.
The post links to videos and a spreadsheet comparing guns, but its weapon-by-weapon findings have not been independently reviewed here. There is therefore no verified list of affected weapons, quantified height difference, or established number of guns involved.
What Crytek has said about Hunter models and the camera
In its March 29, 2023 Update 1.12 notes, Crytek described moving the Hunter model relative to the camera to reduce the advantage from peeking around the left side of cover. The note focused on how much of the Hunter’s head is visible and acknowledged that some edge cases may still expose slightly more of the body. Crytek also cautioned: “Although these changes should make it more fair regardless of the side you peek from, it’s important to mention that due to the nature of first-person cameras, this will never be perfect.” Read the Update 1.12 notes.

This is relevant context about camera and model positioning, but the note does not say that Crytek investigated or fixed the specific weapon-dependent crouch-height behavior described in 2021. Crytek’s February 18, 2025 developer insight discusses broad priorities including stability, performance, and long-standing gameplay bugs; it does not name this report. Read the developer insight.
Is the issue still present in Hunt: Showdown?
The official notes checked through October 6, 2026 do not establish the current status of this exact behavior. Update 2.9.1, dated October 5, and Update 2.9, dated September 8, do not mention it; the October 6 Blood Testament Chapter 2 notes cover event content and do not mention it either. An issue’s absence from those notes is not proof that it persists, and it is not proof that it was fixed.

On the available evidence, the careful description is a historical player-reported issue whose current status is unconfirmed—not a confirmed live bug or a documented fix.

A useful reproduction should hold the viewing conditions steady and compare only the weapon or stance being tested. This is a suggested player method, not an official Crytek procedure.

- Record the game version, platform, and control scheme.
- Choose a repeatable location and piece of cover. Keep the Hunter’s position, camera placement, cover geometry, and observer’s position fixed.
- Compare the same weapon variants in each reported state: lowered weapon, hip-fire, and ADS.
- Have a second player observe the Hunter from the same position in each comparison. Record whether the apparent exposure changes.
- Capture video and note the weapon, variant, stance, and conditions for each observation. Distinguish a model-versus-camera mismatch from ordinary changes in where the Hunter crouched or how the camera was positioned.
A single impression, or a comparison made with different cover or observer positions, cannot establish that a particular weapon causes the difference. Reproduction on a stated current version is needed before treating the 2021 report as current.

What players can conclude
- The 2021 post reports weapon- and stance-dependent differences in visible crouch posture and an apparent mismatch between the Hunter model and first-person camera.
