In Iceborne, the Master Rank Kulve Taroth quest provides materials to upgrade those existing weapons; it does not drop new appraisal weapons. Siege availability rotates, so check the current event schedule or the in-game Notice Board before planning a hunt.
How do you get Kulve Taroth weapons?
New weapons come from the High Rank Kulve Taroth Siege. Capcom describes weapon relics concealed in Kulve Taroth’s gold mantle; their weapon types and stats vary, so rewards are randomized rather than a guaranteed choice. See Capcom’s Siege announcement.
The Siege is built around shared progress, not only a single party’s isolated hunt. Groups of up to four hunters contribute investigation and hunt progress toward the same Kulve Taroth, with the main objective to repel the monster. More detail is in Capcom’s description of the Siege.
- Check the current event schedule or the in-game Notice Board to confirm the Siege is available.
- Join or create a Siege session and contribute to the shared objective with a party of up to four hunters.
- Earn and appraise the weapon relic rewards. The resulting weapon type and stats are variable.
What is the difference between Taroth and Kjarr weapons?
Taroth and Kjarr are names used for variants in the Kulve Taroth weapon pool. A secondary guide counts 14 weapon classes and lists both variant families, but the official Capcom sources cited here do not provide a complete item-by-item catalogue. See Game8’s Kulve Taroth weapon guide.

The available evidence here does not establish a universal performance ranking between Taroth and Kjarr weapons. To choose between candidates, compare weapons within the same class and account for their element or status, affinity, sharpness, weapon-specific mechanics or skills, upgrade level, and the build and monster you intend to use them against. A weapon’s name alone is not enough to determine which is best for your setup.
How do you upgrade Kulve Taroth weapons in Iceborne?
Use materials from the Master Rank Kulve Taroth quest to upgrade High Rank appraised weapons you already own. Capcom’s Title Update 13.5 announcement distinguishes this upgrade route from collecting new relics: the Master Rank quest does not award new appraisal weapons. For new appraised weapons, use the High Rank Siege.

When is the Kulve Taroth Siege available?
Capcom’s event schedule says the Kulve Taroth Siege and the Master Rank quest The Eternal Gold Rush alternate in a two-week rotation. The schedule page was last updated on November 5, 2021, and warns that quests can change or be cancelled, so it does not confirm a particular future date. Check Capcom’s event schedule and verify the live listing in the in-game Notice Board.
