Buying another user’s Roblox account is prohibited by Roblox’s Terms of Use. Roblox says an attempted purchase violates its terms, makes the transaction void, and may lead to suspension or termination. That does not by itself establish that buying an account is a crime: criminal or civil legality depends on the law that applies and the transaction’s facts.
What Roblox’s terms prohibit
Roblox’s Terms of Use, effective May 19, 2026, expressly prohibit both selling an account or its access credentials and purchasing another user’s account or credentials. The restriction covers buying access as well as taking over the account itself.
Roblox states that an attempt to buy or sell an account violates its terms and renders the transaction void. It says the attempt may result in immediate suspension or termination of the account and the user’s license to use Robux or Virtual Content. “May” matters: the terms describe possible consequences, not a guaranteed outcome in every case.
Against Roblox’s rules is not automatically a crime
A platform’s contract rules and the criminal law of a country or state are separate questions. Roblox’s terms establish that an account purchase is prohibited on the platform; they do not establish that every buyer has committed a crime under local law.

Whether a particular transaction could also create legal liability depends on the jurisdiction and facts. For example, alleged theft, fraud, or unauthorized payment use may raise separate legal issues. The available sources do not establish a general criminal-law rule for ordinary account purchases, so a definitive answer about local legality requires jurisdiction-specific legal information.
The narrow transfer exception
Roblox’s terms describe a limited exception for transferring an account in connection with the right to earn Robux from selling Virtual Content created by that account, pursuant to a valid written agreement. This is not general permission to buy or sell accounts. The terms also say the exception does not permit selling Robux or Virtual Content outside Roblox’s Services.

Why off-platform listings carry additional risk
Roblox says Virtual Content is acquired through its Services, has no real-world equivalent value, and does not create enforceable property rights based on a platform transaction. It also says it does not recognize or take responsibility for third-party services that let users buy, sell, or transfer Robux or Virtual Content. See the Roblox Terms of Use.
Roblox’s 2025 Form 10-K discusses unauthorized, fraudulent, or illegal sales and purchases of accounts and digital goods as activities that can lead to disputes and legal claims. That company disclosure identifies risks; it does not say every account purchase is a crime. Read the 2025 Form 10-K for that context.

What to do if you are considering a purchase
- Do not treat a seller’s promise of a “safe” transfer as permission under Roblox’s terms.
- Do not share payment details or credentials with a third-party seller; the transaction is not recognized or backed by Roblox.
- If you have already paid or shared credentials, secure any accounts and payment methods involved, and contact the relevant service or payment provider about suspected unauthorized activity.
- For a legal answer about your situation, consult a qualified local legal professional; the answer can depend on where you are and what happened.
Regional terms
Roblox also publishes terms for the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. See the regional Terms of Use if you are covered by those rules. The available information does not establish how every regional term applies to a particular account transaction.
