No remake has been officially confirmed in the sources reviewed. Sony’s current PlayStation Store listing is for a PS4 and PS5 conversion of the original PlayStation 2 game—not a remake. Sony lists that conversion as released on April 15, 2025.
What Sony has confirmed
Sony Computer Entertainment America announced War of the Monsters for PlayStation 2 on January 14, 2003. Its announcement described a monster-fighting game with destructible environments and two-player split-screen play. Sony’s 2003 announcement called out split-screen that merges into one when opponents fight at close range.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s current US PlayStation Store listing identifies the PS4 and PS5 edition as converted from the PS2 version. It gives April 15, 2025 as the release date and describes newly added features. The listing does not call the game a remake or announce a separate remake project.
What is included in the PS4 and PS5 conversion?
The Store listing names four added features: up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. It also describes the game’s original content: 10 monsters, 13 destructible environments, weapons, counterattacks, and two-player play. Those details describe the listed game; they are not evidence of a remake.

Why the remake question is still open
The official sources reviewed do not confirm that a remake is in development. The PlayStation Blog’s June 2, 2026 State of Play roundup does not mention War of the Monsters. That only establishes that the game was not included in that event’s announcement roundup; it does not establish Sony’s plans beyond it. There is no basis here to say Sony has ruled out a remake.
How to distinguish the available versions

If you want to play the original on its original platform, look specifically for the PS2 game. The PS4/PS5 Store edition is a conversion, not a newly announced remake.
