What is Larian’s new Divinity game?
Divinity is the title of Larian Studios’ newly announced RPG, set in the world of Rivellon. Larian’s official game page describes it as an RPG and sets its tone with the tagline: “The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir.” The game was revealed with a cinematic trailer shown live during The Game Awards 2025.
Larian describes the project as its most ambitious title yet and says it aims for more breadth and depth than its previous work. Those are the studio’s descriptions of its own ambitions, not independently measurable comparisons. In the announcement, founder and game director Swen Vincke said: “Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled ‘Divinity.’ We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place. This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands. This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make and you’re going to have loads of fun with it.”
The reveal’s “brutal” characterization describes the trailer’s tone; it does not establish a game rating, a content warning, or specific combat mechanics. Cinematic imagery can set a mood without confirming how the finished game will play.

Is Divinity a sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2?
Larian has not described the new game as a direct sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2. The announcement says players of Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 can gain greater understanding and continuity, but it does not specify the new game’s precise place in the series’ chronology or its story relationship to either title.
Do you need to play the old Divinity games first?
No. Larian says previous experience with its games is not required. Players familiar with the two Original Sin RPGs may recognize added context and continuity, while newcomers are not expected to have played them to start the new game.

When does the new Divinity game come out, and what platforms is it on?
Larian’s announcement materials reviewed here do not state a release date or list platforms. They also do not specify a price, preorder, editions, or age rating. Treat claims about those details as unconfirmed unless Larian publishes them through an official channel.

Larian’s press page lists a Divinity press pack with logos, screenshots, B-roll, and trailers; the page marks the pack as last updated in December 2025. The studio’s December 2025 announcement also reported that more than 500 people work across its worldwide studios, and that its earlier games had received over 150 awards and nominations for Divinity: Original Sin, over 160 awards for Divinity: Original Sin 2, and over 200 Game of the Year awards for Baldur’s Gate 3. These are figures published by Larian, not independently verified counts.
