Secondary reports about leaked development material say a Flying-type Eevee evolution was considered during the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon era, but that a concern about resemblance to a fan-made design contributed to shelving the concept. The document has not been independently authenticated in the available reporting, and no official statement confirms the account. It is a leak-based claim—not a confirmed explanation from Game Freak or The Pokémon Company.
What the leak reports claim
Pokémon Millennium and Kotaku report that leaked material described a Flying-type Eeveelution considered during development associated with the seventh generation. Pokémon Millennium says the relevant entry was dated June 17, 2014, and that a meeting raised concern about similarity to a fan-created design. The claim is therefore about a proposed concept, not a Pokémon announced for release. Pokémon Millennium’s report and Kotaku’s coverage are secondary reporting on alleged leaked material.
A PokéBase community answer also reproduces what it describes as an English translation of a passage about high design costs arising from similarities to fan-created designs. The answer says it could not find the original untranslated source. That account does not independently authenticate the passage or establish that the reported concern was the sole reason the concept was shelved. The community answer is user-generated, not an official source.
What is—and is not—established
- Reported: A Flying-type Eevee evolution was considered in the Sun and Moon development period, and leaked-material coverage links a concern about resemblance to a fan-made design with the concept being shelved.
- Not independently verified: The underlying document’s authenticity and the account of the meeting.
- Not identified: The proposed Pokémon’s name, its appearance, and the specific fan-made design it allegedly resembled.
- Not confirmed: Any official explanation from Game Freak or The Pokémon Company, or that resemblance to fan art was the only reason the concept did not proceed.
Because those details are not established, attributing the outcome to a particular artist—or describing a specific design as the one that caused cancellation—would go beyond what the reporting supports.

Why this is not an announcement of a new Eeveelution
A leak-based report about an old development concept does not mean a Flying-type Eeveelution is planned for a future game. The official Pokémon forums include fans asking what type they would want for a new Eeveelution, but that discussion shows audience interest, not company plans. The forum thread is relevant to fan phrasing only.
For readers asking why there have not been more Eeveelutions, this story offers a possible glimpse into one reported concept—not an official answer about the franchise’s release decisions. The careful conclusion is limited: secondary coverage says a Flying-type evolution was considered and that similarity to fan-made work was raised as a concern, while the document and the explanation remain unconfirmed.
