If you are looking for the Season of Discovery raid item, seek High Commander Beatrix—not the older Paladin quest.
Are Lightforged Blade and Ruined Lightforged Blade the same item?
No. They are separate items with different level requirements, sources, and purposes. The original Lightforged Blade is an equippable two-handed sword from an Alliance Paladin quest. The Ruined Lightforged Blade is a level-60 bind-on-pickup quest starter dropped in the Scarlet Enclave.

| Ruined Lightforged Blade | Season of Discovery exclusive listing; requires level 60 | Warrior, Paladin, Hunter | High Commander Beatrix in the Scarlet Enclave | Starts “Blades of Light” and is retained for “The Lost Craftsman” |

What happens after you loot it?
“Blades of Light” asks you to find a blacksmith capable of assessing the blade’s material. Its quest text says, “Even ruined and broken, the properties of the blade you hold before you are impressive.” The blacksmith points you toward Omarion, a specialist in exotic materials and alloys, but says he has vanished. This establishes the narrative lead toward the Ashbringer progression.

Its listed tasks include bringing 10 Dirge’s Kickin’ Chimaerok Chops for “Extravagant Tastes,” collecting 12 Lightforged Iron for “Gathering Light,” and gathering further crafting materials: Arcanite Bars, Obsidian-Infused Thorium Bars, Truesilver Bars, Huge Emeralds, and Righteous Orbs. The guide says the chain proceeds toward the Hilt of the Ashbringer from Grand Crusader Caldoran. These are guide-reported progression details, not an official Blizzard confirmation.
Quick Recap
Which Lightforged Blade are you looking for?
- If you want a level-47 Paladin weapon, look up “Lightforged Blade” and the quest “Forging the Mightstone.”
- If you are following the Season of Discovery level-60 raid quest chain, look for “Ruined Lightforged Blade” from High Commander Beatrix and the quest “Blades of Light.”
- Do not use the original sword’s combat stats to judge the ruined item: one is equipment, the other is a quest starter.
