Yes. The Forza Horizon 3 demo was free when it launched: on Xbox One from September 12, 2016, and on Windows 10 PC from November 3, 2016. That historical price does not confirm whether a new player can still download the separate demo today; official sources reviewed do not establish its current availability.
When was the Forza Horizon 3 demo free?
The Xbox One demo launched at no charge on September 12, 2016, according to Xbox Wire’s announcement. The Windows 10 PC demo followed on November 3, 2016, and was offered through the Windows Store for no additional charge, as Xbox Wire reported.
What did the demo include?
The Xbox One version offered a limited sample of the game, including part of the map and a guided tour. Players could join an online free-roam session with others after completing the demo events. The Windows 10 PC announcement described a portion of the map and guided demo activities, followed by the option to enter an online free-roam session after completing events.
Can you still download the demo?
Its current availability is not confirmed by the official sources reviewed. The original demo announcements date from 2016. The current Xbox listing describes the full game, not the separate demo, so it does not establish whether a new user can download the demo.

Does Forza Horizon 3’s end-of-life status affect the demo?
Forza Horizon 3 reached end-of-life status on September 27, 2020. The announcement, reproduced in the official Forza Community Forums, said the full game and associated DLC would no longer be for sale after that date, while people who owned them could continue downloading and playing their content. That statement concerns the full game and DLC; it does not say whether the separate demo remains downloadable.

The 2016 announcements covered Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. The PC announcement listed Windows Anniversary Edition 64-bit, version 14393.102, and 21 GB of available storage among its historical system requirements. Those figures are from 2016 and should not be treated as current Windows compatibility guidance.
