The sequel is in development, and Steam currently lists its release date as “To be announced.”
What did Mundfish announce?
On 7 June 2025, Mundfish unveiled three projects: Atomic Heart 2 and The CUBE, which expand the Atomic Universe, plus ILL, announced under the Mundfish Powerhouse label. Mundfish calls Atomic Heart 2 a sequel and describes it as an action-adventure RPG set in a retrofuturistic alternate-history universe. Mundfish’s announcement archive records the date, and the official sequel page outlines the game.
What is known about Atomic Heart 2?
Mundfish says the sequel will tell a new story in a living world, with events expanding to a global scale. The studio also points to returning and new characters, expanded RPG elements and player freedom. Its combat description combines glove abilities with melee and ranged weapons. These are announced features, not a full account of the game’s systems or a guarantee that every detail will remain unchanged before release.
When is Atomic Heart 2 coming out?
There is no confirmed release date in the available official listing. Steam’s Atomic Heart 2 page identifies Mundfish as developer and publisher, marks the game as not yet available, and gives its release date as “To be announced.” A trailer, announcement or wishlist listing should not be read as a launch date.

Did the first Atomic Heart sell 10 million copies?
Mundfish’s 29 May 2025 announcement says the original Atomic Heart “has officially surpassed 10 million players worldwide.” That is the studio’s stated player milestone; it does not establish that 10 million copies were sold. The studio’s news archive uses the players measure. GamesBeat later described the figure as more than 10 million copies sold, which accounts for the “10M sold” wording, but conflicts with Mundfish’s more specific wording. GamesBeat’s report is evidence of that discrepancy, not confirmation of a sales total.
The available figures do not break down how players accessed the game, so they cannot establish how many bought it versus played through a subscription or another route.

What is the first game, and is it useful to play before the sequel?
The original Atomic Heart launched on 21 February 2023. Mundfish describes it as a first-person action-adventure story with RPG elements, set in an alternate 1955 where a society shaped by advanced robotics faces a system failure. Those setting and story details make the first game useful context for the sequel’s returning characters and expanded universe, although Mundfish has not provided a full account of how the two plots connect. See the official Atomic Heart page for the original’s premise and platform indicators.
