It added the spear, new underwater mounts, hostile mounted mobs, and new armor. The original “less than two weeks away” countdown is no longer current.
When did Mounts of Mayhem come out?
Mojang announced a December 9, 2025 release date for Mounts of Mayhem, then confirmed the game drop had arrived that day. The original countdown appeared in Windows Central’s November 27, 2025 headline; it described an upcoming release at the time, not a future date now. Mojang calls Mounts of Mayhem the fourth game drop of 2025, part of its approach of releasing more frequent updates during the year.
Mojang’s release-day announcement confirms the launch, while its November 26 release-date announcement set the date. The earlier September 27, 2025 reveal introduced it as that year’s fourth game drop.
What did the update add?
The spear
The spear is a tiered weapon with two attacks: jab and charge. Charge damage depends on the player’s speed, so sprinting, riding, or traveling with an elytra can build momentum for a stronger hit. The weapon can be crafted in wood, copper, iron, gold, diamond, and Netherite tiers.

The spear also has a Lunge enchantment that gives the player a burst of speed and can knock a rider off a mount. Exact behavior and availability should be checked in the release notes for the edition being played.
Nautilus mounts and underwater travel
The nautilus and zombie nautilus are underwater mounts. Mojang says riding one provides underwater speed and prevents the player’s air bubbles from decreasing while mounted. Bedrock’s release notes clarify that the Breath of the Nautilus effect pauses oxygen consumption; it does not replenish oxygen.

Players can also find nautilus armor. The zombie nautilus can appear with a drowned rider, creating a hostile underwater encounter.
New hostile encounters
Mounts of Mayhem adds camel husks in desert encounters with hostile riders, the parched, and zombie horsemen that emerge at night. Java’s release notes list naturally spawning zombie horses; consult the relevant edition’s notes for the precise spawning rules and mechanics.

Changes to existing mounts
The drop adds Netherite horse armor alongside its new mounts and hostile riders. Its release notes also cover other mount-related changes, so players looking for exact behavior should use the notes for their edition rather than assume every detail is identical between Java and Bedrock.

The version numbers differ by edition. Mojang’s Mounts of Mayhem update page covers both and directs players to update Minecraft to the latest version. For a specific mechanic, use the notes matching the edition installed on your device.

How to get Mounts of Mayhem
- Open the Minecraft launcher or the game’s update interface on your device.
- Choose the latest available Minecraft version for your edition: Java or Bedrock.
- Install or launch that version. The relevant Mounts of Mayhem release is Java 1.21.11 or Bedrock 1.21.130.
