It adds dynamic lighting, shadows, reflective water and atmospheric effects without changing gameplay. Java Edition is on a separate development track: Mojang has begun testing Vulkan support, but has not announced a full Vibrant Visuals release date for Java.
What Vibrant Visuals changes—and what it doesn’t
Vibrant Visuals is a graphics mode that changes how Minecraft’s existing world is rendered. Mojang describes moving shadows, light interacting with water, reflective surfaces, volumetric fog and lighting, more atmospheric skies, and lighting effects across existing textures. Its official update timeline calls it “Minecraft’s biggest visual refresh to date”—Mojang’s characterization, not a quantified comparison.

The mode does not add gameplay mechanics. Mojang’s feature description outlines visual effects, but does not publish a measured frame-rate cost or a quantified visual-quality score; performance will depend on the device and settings.
Who can use Vibrant Visuals now?
Vibrant Visuals launched for Bedrock Edition with version 1.21.90 in June 2025. Mojang lists support for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS and PC. The platform list does not mean every device in each family will run it equally well, and mobile and PC have specific requirements.

- PC: Minecraft must run on DX12.
These are Mojang’s published compatibility criteria, not a guarantee of identical performance across qualifying devices. Mojang warned that performance may degrade on Xbox One, Xbox One S, PlayStation 4 and some Android devices.
How to turn on Vibrant Visuals in Bedrock
- Update Minecraft to a version that includes Vibrant Visuals.
- Open Settings, then choose Video.
- Under Graphics Mode, select Vibrant Visuals.
- Open Vibrant Visuals Options to choose a preset. Use Favor Visuals for the image-focused option or Favor Performance if you want to prioritize responsiveness.
If the game feels less smooth, try Favor Performance. It may help, but it is not a guarantee that every device will perform well.

Worlds, Marketplace content and multiplayer
Existing worlds and Marketplace content
You can use Vibrant Visuals with existing Bedrock worlds. Marketplace compatibility is more specific: Mojang’s current feature information refers to content labeled for Vibrant Visuals, and some Marketplace worlds or packs can prevent the mode from running. Check the compatibility label in-game rather than assuming that every world or texture pack supports it. Earlier launch-era compatibility statements do not establish the status of every item now.
Realms and split-screen
Realms friends can play together even if some players do not have Vibrant Visuals enabled. Local split-screen does not support the mode: when multiple local players join, the game falls back to Fancy or Simple rendering.

Java Edition: Vulkan testing is not the full upgrade
Java Edition does not yet have the full Vibrant Visuals release. Mojang has been modernizing Java’s renderer while working to preserve support for Windows, macOS and Linux. In April 2026, the Java Team introduced Vulkan support into snapshot testing as a step toward that work. Mojang says testing will continue until the implementation is stable, performant and ready; this is not confirmation that the complete visual refresh has shipped in snapshots.
As of October 8, 2026, Mojang’s update timeline still describes Vibrant Visuals for Java as in development and gives no firm public full-release date.

Nintendo Switch 2: scheduled release and upgrade options
Mojang has scheduled the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Minecraft for October 27, 2026. As of October 8, that date is still in the future. Vibrant Visuals is planned as its default graphics experience, and Mojang says the Super Mario Mash-Up content will be updated to use the graphics. The publisher also notes that the mode will be unavailable in some gameplay, including split-screen and certain Marketplace worlds or content.
A physical Switch 2 edition is available to preorder, but buying it is not necessary to get Vibrant Visuals in general: compatible Bedrock players can already use the mode on supported devices. Existing digital Nintendo Switch owners can preorder the Switch 2 Standard Edition digitally at no cost in most territories through the end of January 2027. Mojang identifies Japan and Taiwan as exceptions with small charges; the offer is through Nintendo eShop, and terms may vary by region.
