Minecraft is getting a themed land at Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London, with an opening targeted for 2027. The £50 million project, called Minecraft World, is planned to include a rollercoaster named Escape the Nether, interactive attractions, themed shops and dining, plus a Minecraft-themed hotel. No exact opening day, ticket prices or hotel rates have been announced in the official material reviewed.
Where will Minecraft World be?
Minecraft World is planned as a themed land inside Chessington World of Adventures, not as a standalone Minecraft-only theme park. Minecraft’s official experiences directory describes it as the first-ever Minecraft theme park land. Merlin Entertainments says Chessington is a 35-minute direct train journey from London Waterloo; check current travel details when planning a visit.
Merlin’s March 2026 announcement values the development at £50 million. That figure is for the Chessington project, not the wider Merlin–Mojang partnership.
When is it expected to open?
The announced target is 2027. The official announcements reviewed do not give a specific opening date, and they do not establish that tickets or hotel rooms are on sale. Check Chessington’s official channels for confirmed dates and booking information as the opening approaches.

What rides and attractions are planned?
Escape the Nether rollercoaster
Merlin’s later update names the coaster Escape the Nether. The operator describes a ride that travels through an indoor mine before passing through a Nether portal into an outdoor area themed around the Overworld. Merlin calls it the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster; that is the operator’s description of the planned attraction, not an independently verified ride review.
Interactive adventures and play areas
The land is also planned to include interactive adventures and block-built playscapes. Merlin has said that a selection of Minecraft creators is collaborating on the project, but its announcement does not name them.

Is a second Minecraft theme park confirmed?
Not in the current detailed announcements reviewed. In November 2024, Merlin and Mojang announced their “Adventures Made Real” partnership, describing an initial investment of more than £85 million ($110 million) in two attractions intended for the US and UK between 2026 and 2027, with expansion to other destinations over time. That was a broader partnership plan; the subsequent detailed announcements identify Chessington’s Minecraft World but do not name a second current park location. The £85 million-plus figure is for the first two partnership attractions, not the Chessington land alone.
Minecraft’s official experiences directory also lists Villager Rescue in Herning, Mexico City, Chicago and Singapore, and Moonlight Trail in Buenos Aires. These are listed as in-person experiences, not as additional theme parks.
