Melting Remnant and Underlegion top Pro Game Guides’ February 2026 ranking of all 12 Monster Train 2 clans. That tier list judges primary-clan success, power, and difficulty; it is an editorial assessment, not an official ranking or a set of measured win rates. Your primary clan supplies your champion, while your allied clan adds another set of cards and mechanics, so the best fit can depend on the pairing and how you like to play.

The placements below are Pro Game Guides’ assessment, updated February 6, 2026. The list covers the full 12-clan roster, including the Destiny of the Railforged DLC. Treat tiers as a useful starting point for comparing clans, not proof that one clan wins more often for every player or combination.

Why the top clans rank highly
S tier: Melting Remnant
Melting Remnant turns death and Burnout into part of the plan. Rather than trying to preserve every unit, you can build around units dying and returning through reform effects, converting a short lifespan into recurring value. The payoff depends on assembling cards that support that loop; it is an engine, not an automatic advantage from simply taking the clan.

S tier: Underlegion
Underlegion’s Funguy strategy aims to multiply and expand its forces through spawning and propagation. Its strength comes from giving that board room and time to grow. The plan can create substantial presence, but it depends on getting the relevant mechanics working and surviving long enough to benefit.
What the A-tier clans ask of you
Lazarus League
Lazarus League centers on Unstable effects that can destroy enemies, with equipment and card combinations helping shape the strategy. Its tools can be powerful, but getting the most from them means coordinating effects rather than relying on a single straightforward unit plan.

Luna Coven
Luna Coven combines changing moon phases with Conduit, which raises spell power. That makes spell-focused play attractive, while the phase system adds another mechanic to track. Its units can be fragile, so timing and spell choices matter.
Banished
Banished builds around Valor, using movement and Shift interactions to accumulate it. The clan rewards attention to timing and to which cards can trigger or capitalize on those interactions. It can be potent when its pieces line up, but is less plug-and-play than a simpler combat plan.

Railforged
Railforged gathers Forge points to improve spells, equipment, and units. Pro Game Guides characterizes it as primarily defensive and places it in A tier. Its improvement engine can reward patient play, though the value depends on having opportunities to build and use Forge.
How to read the B-, C-, and D-tier placements
B tier: Wurmkin, Hellhorned, and Pyreborne
These three clans occupy the middle tier in the cited ranking. That placement is not a finding that they are weak or unviable: the guide’s tier labels summarize its overall judgment, and the available evidence does not give a clan-specific explanation for each of these three positions.

C tier: Awoken and Stygian Guard
Awoken and Stygian Guard sit below the middle group in this particular list. That ordering should not be treated as a numerical comparison of their win rates. Shiny Shoe has said that most clans had similar win rates in its player data; the developer interview did not provide clan-by-clan percentages. Its comments that Awoken and Hellhorned needed the most buffs referred to balance at that time, not a current statistical ranking.
D tier: Umbra
Umbra is last in Pro Game Guides’ ordering. That tells you where that guide’s author placed it under their criteria—not that it is incapable of winning, or that it must be the weakest choice for your cards, allied clan, or play style.

How to use a clan ranking when choosing a run
Monster Train 2 runs combine a primary clan, which provides the champion, with an allied clan. That makes a tier list less like a universal character ranking and more like a quick read on a clan’s standalone tools and demands. Consider four factors when deciding what to play:
- Primary-clan strength: The tier source focuses on success as a primary clan, along with power and difficulty. If you want a simple shortlist, start with its S and A tiers.
- Setup burden: Ask how much time, board space, or mechanic-building the plan needs. Underlegion wants room to grow; Melting Remnant needs its death-and-reform loop; Railforged benefits from building Forge.
- Allied-clan fit: A pairing can support or complicate a plan. Because every run combines two clans, a placement alone cannot tell you how well a specific combination will work.
- Execution comfort: A high ceiling is not the same as ease. Luna Coven’s phases and Banished’s movement interactions, for example, ask you to pay attention to timing and sequencing.
For a current mechanics overview, RailTools’ clan guide is labeled updated September 14, 2026 and identifies patch 2.2.1 game data for its card counts, champion rosters, and keyword frequencies. Its playstyle explanations are editorial summaries rather than generated game data: Monster Train 2 clans explained.
Are these the objectively strongest clans?
No. The ranking is one publication’s editorial ordering, not an official developer tier list or a public clan-by-clan win-rate table. In a PC Gamer interview, Shiny Shoe described most clans’ win rates as similar and said the studio generally avoids publicly naming the strongest or weakest clans because that could influence player choices. The interview supplies no clan-specific percentages, so it cannot validate a precise numerical order.
Destructoid’s May 24, 2025 list was explicitly based on early impressions and covered five clans. It is useful as launch-era context, not as a complete ranking of the current 12-clan roster.
