For more responsive dodges, counters, and attacks, start with Framerate on PS5, PS5 Pro, or Xbox Series X. Choose Resolution if image detail matters more than responsiveness. On PS5 Pro, Balanced is a middle ground to try if your display supports 120Hz output; it targets 40 FPS and includes ray tracing. These are preference-based starting points, not guaranteed performance results.

Which graphics mode should you choose?

  • PS5: Start with Framerate for a 60 FPS target. Choose Resolution for a 30 FPS target and image-detail priority, or Balanced for a 40 FPS target if your display supports 120Hz output.
  • PS5 Pro: Start with Balanced if you have a 120Hz-capable display and want a compromise between the 30 FPS Resolution mode and 60 FPS Framerate mode. Choose Framerate if responsiveness is your priority, or Resolution if you prefer the highest reported rendering resolution and ray tracing.
  • Xbox Series X: Start with Framerate for responsiveness, Resolution for image detail, or Balanced for the 40 FPS middle ground if your display supports 120Hz output.

PlayStation’s official guidance gives the PS5 modes targets of 30, 40, and 60 FPS for Resolution, Balanced, and Framerate. It also says PS5 Pro uses ray tracing in Resolution and Balanced, and that all three modes benefit from PSSR. The more detailed resolution figures below come from TechRadar’s mode tables, not a current Capcom specification sheet.

Mode comparison by console

Output resolution and rendering resolution are different: output is the signal sent to the display, while rendering resolution is the reported resolution at which the game renders. TechRadar lists the following console figures. Frame rates are mode targets, not a guarantee that the game will hold that rate in every scene.

Xbox Series X — Resolution 3840×2160 3072×1728 30 FPS Disabled
Xbox Series X — Balanced 3840×2160 2496×1404 40 FPS Disabled

Xbox Series S — listed mode 1920×1080 1920×1080 30 FPS not stated by TechRadar in the cited mode table

PS5 mode targets and PS5 Pro feature context are also described in PlayStation’s launch guidance. TechRadar’s detailed PS5 Pro and Xbox tables report the resolutions above. TechRadar does not establish these as a current Capcom specification sheet.

When is Balanced mode worth using?

Balanced targets 40 FPS, placing it between the 30 FPS Resolution target and 60 FPS Framerate target. On PS5, PlayStation specifically ties Balanced to a display capable of 120Hz output. Treat that as the display consideration for this mode; it is not a requirement for Resolution or Framerate. If you select Balanced but your display setup does not support 120Hz output, use one of the other modes instead.

On PS5 Pro, Balanced also includes ray tracing according to PlayStation’s mode guidance, while the Framerate mode does not. On Xbox Series X, TechRadar reports ray tracing disabled in all three modes. If responsiveness is your main concern, try Framerate; if the 40 FPS target and, on PS5 Pro, ray tracing appeal more, compare Balanced on your own display.

How to reduce blur or a washed-out image

Motion blur

TechRadar recommends turning off Motion Blur if you find the image distracting. This is a visual preference adjustment, not a guarantee that every kind of blur will disappear.

HDR highlights and shadows

If the picture looks washed out, TechRadar recommends adjusting HDR highlights and shadows. Its specific suggestion for PS5 Pro is to lower HDR highlights to 6. Treat that number as the outlet’s recommendation, not a universal calibration setting: the right result depends on your display and viewing conditions, so adjust until bright areas retain detail without making the overall image too dark.

What changed in recent updates?

Windows Central reported that version 1.041.00.00, released February 18, 2026, included console optimizations: lower CPU and GPU load, adjusted model level of detail, optimized spawn-time processing, effect caching, and rendering-process optimizations. PlayStation Blog said on March 16, 2026, that Capcom adopted upgraded PSSR in Monster Hunter Wilds to refine image clarity and stability.

Those reports do not provide a controlled, current comparison across PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X, so they do not establish a measured performance uplift, a stable frame-rate lock, or a definitive best-performing console. The mode targets and TechRadar table figures are useful selection guidance, but actual results can vary by scene and update.
