Naughty Dog’s next game is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a new sci-fi franchise in development for PlayStation 5. Studio head Neil Druckmann said in the game’s December 12, 2024 announcement that the team had been working on the adventure since 2020. That is the studio’s stated start year; the announcement does not specify what production milestone “working on” refers to.
What is Neil Druckmann’s new Naughty Dog game?
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog’s announced next game and a brand-new franchise, rather than a new entry in The Last of Us or Uncharted. Druckmann identified it as a PlayStation 5 game in the studio’s December 12, 2024 announcement.

The story follows Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter stranded on Sempiria, a distant planet whose communication with the rest of the universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Naughty Dog says Jordan must use her skills and wits to become the first person in more than 600 years to leave the planet’s orbit. The studio has kept most of the story under wraps.
Has Intergalactic been in development since 2020?
Yes: Druckmann wrote in the announcement, “We’ve been working on this brand-new adventure since 2020!” That confirms the year Naughty Dog says work began, but it does not establish a more precise start date, the length of any particular development phase, or an independently audited production timeline.

The studio also named Tati Gabrielle as the performer for Jordan and announced that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross would score the game. Druckmann later described it as Naughty Dog’s “most ambitious game yet”; that is his characterization, not a measurable comparison disclosed by the studio.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When will Naughty Dog show more, and is there a release date?
In a September 28, 2026 update, Druckmann said Naughty Dog would be quiet about Intergalactic for the rest of 2026 and fully reveal it in 2027. He wrote: “In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.” The update gives no specific reveal date, and a planned reveal is not a launch announcement.
The official announcements cited here do not provide a release date, preorder timing, price, or details of a physical edition. Naughty Dog has identified PS5 as the platform, but that alone does not mean the game is available to buy or preorder.
Are Druckmann’s other newly mentioned projects related?
No connection to Intergalactic was announced. In the September 2026 update, Druckmann separately mentioned “a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages” that would expand The Last of Us canon beyond Parts I and II. He did not disclose details or a reveal schedule for those projects. The update treats them separately from Intergalactic, which already has an announcement and a promised fuller reveal in 2027.
