The decision concerned their planned Netflix releases; it did not mean all six games were cancelled across every platform.

Why did Netflix drop the planned additions?
A Netflix spokesperson described the move as “just a natural part of adjusting our portfolio as we learn more about what our members like,” according to Engadget. The report did not name the spokesperson or provide game-by-game reasons, performance figures, or evidence that member preferences drove the decision for any particular title.
Was Tales of the Shire cancelled?
No. Netflix dropping its planned version did not cancel the game elsewhere. Engadget reported that Tales of the Shire would still be released for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The change was a decision about six planned additions, not an announcement that Netflix was ending its games service. In a September 9, 2026 catalogue page, Netflix said members had access to more than 120 exclusive mobile games, with no ads, extra fees or in-app purchases; it described the games as downloadable through app stores for Android and Apple mobile devices. That count and description are Netflix’s own, dated claims, and do not establish the current availability of any of the six dropped titles. Netflix Tudum’s catalogue page.
