For subscribers tired of scrolling through shows, Netflix Games can be the more surprising part of the service: instead of choosing something to watch, you can step into a puzzle, action game, or familiar story world. That is a taste-based argument, not a measured verdict. Netflix publishes video-viewing figures and a games catalogue, but those sources do not compare how exciting viewers find shows with how much players enjoy games.
Why Netflix Games can feel fresher than another show
Watching a series is a largely passive choice; playing asks you to act, solve, explore, or compete. That difference can make a game feel more immediate, particularly when it draws on a world you already care about. It does not mean every game is more compelling than every show: the appeal depends on whether you want interaction, challenge, or simply a story to watch.
Netflix itself framed games as a way for fans to engage more deeply with familiar franchises, writing in its January 2025 slate announcement, “Finally, Games offer fans a way to go even deeper into their favorite worlds.” That is the company’s rationale for the format, not evidence that games outperform shows in quality or engagement. What Netflix Games are included with a subscription?
Netflix’s catalogue page, dated September 9, 2026, lists more than 120 exclusive mobile games for members, with no ads, extra fees, or in-app purchases, according to Netflix. Games are downloaded through an app store to supported Android phones and tablets, and Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The catalogue is not one uniform kind of experience. Netflix highlights Puzzled, a daily collection of word, logic, and visual puzzles, and lists action games such as Dead Cells: Netflix Edition. Browse the current catalogue for the options that suit you; its contents can change. Whether the selection is “good” depends on the genres and play styles you enjoy, rather than the size of the library alone.
What the viewing numbers can—and cannot—tell us
Netflix reported more than 97 billion hours watched in the first half of 2026, covering January through June, its highest half-year view-hour total at that point. That is evidence of substantial video viewing, not proof that shows are more exciting, nor a benchmark against game play. The report defines a view as total hours viewed divided by runtime, so a “view” is not necessarily one distinct person. Netflix has cautioned against treating viewing hours as a complete measure of success: “Success on Netflix comes in all shapes and sizes, and is not determined by hours viewed alone.” Its 2023 explanation described a report covering more than 18,000 titles and 99% of all viewing on Netflix at that time; those figures describe the historical scope of that report, not the 2026 report. Franchise games add a different kind of appeal
A recognizable Netflix property can give a game an immediate hook: fans may want to explore a setting or take part in a world they normally only watch. In January 2025, Netflix said Squid Game: Unleashed was “on pace to be Netflix’s most downloaded game ever.” That was a dated company statement about download pace; it does not establish the game’s current ranking, quality, retention, or playtime. That same announcement described planned games connected to Ginny & Georgia, Sweet Magnolias, Love is Blind, and Single’s Inferno, as well as WWE 2K mobile exclusivity. An announced or planned title should not be assumed to be available now: check the current catalogue for its status in your region. These are format-based suggestions, not a universal ranking. Netflix’s public viewing figures and catalogue do not provide a shared measure for comparing game excitement with show enjoyment. The fairest answer to “Are Netflix games better than Netflix shows?” is that games may feel more exciting when you want agency and shows may suit you better when you want to watch a story unfold.
