The reports did not establish why he left. At the time, Netflix had not announced a successor, and the initiative’s future was unclear; that March 2025 account does not establish its status today.
What happened to Mike Verdu at Netflix?
Netflix confirmed Verdu’s departure to Game File, Game Developer reported on March 12, 2025. TheWrap also covered his exit that day. Verdu joined Netflix in 2021 and previously led Netflix Games. After Alain Tascan took over leadership of the games division in 2024, Verdu moved into the generative-AI games role.
The reports did not give a reason for Verdu’s departure. They do not support attributing it to a performance issue, layoffs, a change in strategy, or a disagreement.
What was Verdu’s generative-AI role intended to do?
When Verdu announced the role in November 2024, he described an ambition to use AI to accelerate game development and give teams of different sizes new capabilities, while keeping creative talent central. He wrote: “I am focused on a creator-first vision for AI, one that puts creative talent at the center, with AI being a catalyst and an accelerant.”

That statement described Verdu’s goals. It is not evidence that Netflix released a particular AI development tool or shipped a game made with the initiative.
Was Mike Verdu replaced, and what happened to the initiative?
In the reporting immediately after his exit, no successor had been announced for the generative-AI games role, and the initiative’s future was described as unclear. Those reports provide a snapshot of the situation in March 2025, not a verified update on Netflix’s position in October 2026. The available sources here do not establish whether the role was later filled or what became of the initiative.

How did games fit Netflix’s business strategy?
Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said the company was seeing positive effects from games among members who played, but described games’ acquisition and retention effects as “relatively small” at the time. He said Netflix would be disciplined about increasing investment as the benefits to members grew.
Peters also characterized the games market as “approximately $140 billion in consumer spend, ex China, ex Russia, and not even including the ad revenue,” as TheWrap reported in March 2025. This was Peters’s estimate, with those exclusions, not an independently validated or current market total.

What did Netflix Games look like at the time?
Game Developer reported that Netflix had more than 80 mobile titles in its catalogue when its March 2025 article was published. That is a dated catalogue figure, not a current count. The departure reports therefore place Verdu’s AI ambition within a broader games operation, but do not show that the role had produced a specific release.
