Before it was announced, FFXIV lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa said the team would welcome the chance to collaborate; Square Enix later launched the crossover in Patch 7.35 on October 7, 2025. His comment was enthusiasm, not an advance announcement.
What did the FFXIV developer say about a Wilds crossover?
In an interview with GamesRadar+, FFXIV lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa said: “There are many fans of the Monster Hunter series within the FF14 team, and I am one of them.” Asked about collaborating with Monster Hunter Wilds, he added: “So if we can do a crossover, I’m sure we could create something amazing with our overwhelming enthusiasm!”

The condition matters: Nakagawa was describing what the team would like to do if an opportunity arose, not confirming a project or giving a date. The crossover was announced later.
Did Final Fantasy 14 actually get a Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration?
Yes. Square Enix’s official campaign coverage says the crossover arrived in Patch 7.35, and its launch announcement set the start date as Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The old interview is therefore best read as an expression of interest that was eventually followed by an official event—not as news that the event was still only hypothetical.

Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
What arrived in the crossover?
Official FFXIV campaign materials list Guardian Arkveld, a Stray Felyne, Veldian weapons, Hope Mail body gear, furnishings, and mounts. The listed rewards are tied to specific duties and exchanges:
- Veldian weapon coffer: Earned by completing either difficulty of The Windward Wilds.
- Hope Mail pieces: Exchanged for Guardian Scales carved after defeating Guardian Arkveld.
- Seikret mount: Reward for completing “The White Visitor.”
- Felyne support team cart: Requires a Guardian Arkveld Certificate from The Windward Wilds (Extreme).
These are the campaign’s stated reward conditions. Whether a specific player can access each duty or reward now depends on the live game’s current requirements and availability.

How does the Wilds event compare with the earlier Monster Hunter collaboration?
FFXIV had already crossed over with Monster Hunter: World. The 2018 collaboration brought Rathalos and Palico into FFXIV; in the other direction, Behemoth and Cactuar appeared in Monster Hunter: World. FFXIV’s event included The Great Hunt and The Great Hunt (Extreme), with Rathalos-related rewards.
The shared history provides context, but the events are not interchangeable: the later Wilds campaign centers on Guardian Arkveld and has its own duties and reward conditions. FFXIV’s official material says The Great Hunt is not limited-time content; that does not establish that the Wilds event has the same availability rules.
