The Monster Hunter Wilds beta reached 463,798 concurrent players on Steam on November 1, 2024—157,338 more than the 306,460 peak reported for the Call of Duty Steam app during Black Ops 6’s launch weekend. But that comparison has an important limit: the Call of Duty figure covers a shared app with other Call of Duty content, not Black Ops 6 alone.
How many people played the Monster Hunter Wilds beta on Steam?
SteamDB records an all-time peak of 463,798 concurrent players for the Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test on November 1, 2024. That is the highest number of people playing the beta at the same time on Steam, not a count of everyone who tried it over the full test period. SteamDB’s beta chart lists the peak and date.

How does that compare with Black Ops 6?
For the launch weekend of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the reported Steam peak was 306,460 concurrent players. Subtracting that from the beta’s 463,798 gives a difference of 157,338 concurrent players. The comparison is between Steam peaks, but the figures do not represent equivalent game counts.
| Steam figure | Peak | When | What it measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test | 463,798 concurrent players | November 1, 2024 | The beta test’s Steam app peak, according to SteamDB. |
| Call of Duty during Black Ops 6’s launch weekend | 306,460 concurrent players | Launch weekend in October 2024 | The shared Call of Duty Steam app peak, reported by NME using SteamDB’s Call of Duty app chart. |
Why the comparison is not one-to-one
Black Ops 6 was accessed through the shared Call of Duty Steam app, which also included other Call of Duty content, including Warzone. Its 306,460 peak is therefore an app-level count; it cannot be treated as a standalone Black Ops 6 player count. The beta’s count, by contrast, is for the Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test app.
#1 Best Overall
- Wild New Adventure – Monster Hunter Wilds follows the story of a special Research Commission investigating the Forbidden Lands. Fully voiced for the first time in the series, the hunter is joined in their journey by a colorful cast of characters, including a Palico partner, Guild-appointed Handler Alma, trusty smithy Gemma, and the mysterious child Nata. Together, the team ventures into an unexplored new frontier where surprises await around every corner.
- A Living World – The Forbidden Lands spans multiple biomes with dynamic identities, such as the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, where the ecosystems shift between vibrant seasons brimming with life, and unforgiving climates where monsters fight over limited resources. Changes in the landscape will impact the creatures that live there and push hunters to adapt as well.
- New Monsters and Wildlife – Monster Hunter Wilds features a variety of new creatures, ranging from herds of small species to large monsters – some of which roam the Forbidden Lands in packs. Every creature hunters encounter in the wild has carved out a special place in its habitat and possesses unique attacks and behaviors.
- Players can also now ride atop the Seikret, an agile new mount enabling hunters to traverse difficult terrain, perform actions like sharpening weapons on the move, and switch between two weapons while out on hunts!
- Evolved Hunting Action – The series’ acclaimed action-packed gameplay is back and more exciting than ever! Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
Both numbers are limited to Steam. They do not include players on consoles or other PC storefronts, so they cannot establish which game had more total players, a larger overall audience, or greater popularity across platforms. The defensible takeaway is narrower: the Monster Hunter Wilds beta’s Steam peak exceeded the shared Call of Duty Steam app’s reported peak over Black Ops 6’s launch weekend.

The comparison spans different events. Activision’s official schedule set the first Black Ops 6 beta weekend for August 30 through September 4, 2024; the reported 306,460 figure is from the game’s later launch weekend, not that beta. Activision’s beta announcement gives those dates.

- Hunt giant nature-infused bests – Survive their attacks, learn from their behaviors, and use your Karakuri and your weapons in combination to cut these creatures down to size.
- Craft your hunting grounds – You are the only one in Azuma able to wield the Karakuri technology.
- Hunt in a pack, or be a lone wolf – In WILD HEARTS you can face the Kemono alone or unite with up to two friends (or other players) to stalk and hunt your prey.
- Gear up to hunt, hunt to gear up – Create your character, then gather materials from each hunt and build an array of armor and weapons.
The Monster Hunter Wilds beta reached its Steam peak on November 1, 2024, before the full game released on February 28, 2025. Capcom identifies that release date in its release announcement.
The full game’s later Steam record is a separate statistic
After launch, the full Monster Hunter Wilds game reached a Steam all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players on March 1, 2025, according to SteamDB’s full-game chart. That figure belongs to a different Steam app and a post-release period; it is not the beta’s peak and should not be substituted for it.
