No. The viral claim was about September 1, 2025, and Roblox reportedly said it was inaccurate and that the company had no plans to shut down. That date has passed; it was not a warning about an upcoming September 1.
What was the September 1 Roblox shutdown rumor?
In August 2025, a post circulated on X claiming Roblox would permanently close on September 1, citing safety and security concerns. The post was styled to look like an official announcement, but Gamepressure reported that it came from an account it described as parody or satirical—not an authenticated Roblox shutdown notice. Gamepressure’s report covered the claim at the time.
Dexerto reported that it contacted Roblox and received the response that the rumor was “not accurate” and the platform had no plans to close. This is a company response relayed by Dexerto, rather than a direct corporate announcement reviewed here. Read Dexerto’s report.
Is Roblox shutting down now?
The September 1, 2025 claim did not establish that Roblox was closing, and that date is in the past. For a current service problem, check Roblox Status rather than relying on reposted screenshots or an old rumor. When checked for this report, the status page listed major components—including the website, mobile app, games, Creator and Studio—as operational. That is a point-in-time status, not a guarantee that service will never be interrupted.

How to tell a temporary outage from a shutdown claim
A temporary interruption can make Roblox seem unavailable without meaning the platform is closing. Roblox Support advises checking the status page and Roblox notifications or social media for maintenance and service issues. It notes that a temporary issue can prevent players from joining experiences or delay purchases. Roblox’s connection-problems guidance explains what to check.
- Check the affected service: Compare your problem—such as joining a game or using the website—with the components and incident updates on Roblox Status.
- Check official updates: Look for maintenance notices or service updates from Roblox, not just a screenshot circulating on social media.
- Do not treat a brief disruption as proof of closure: An outage or maintenance event is different from a permanent shutdown announcement.
Why the rumor sounded familiar
Roblox has previously pushed back on similar closure claims. Verificado reported that Roblox used the Spanish wording “Roblox no está cerrando” (“Roblox is not shutting down”) in January 2020, describing the same hoax as one that resurfaces every year or two with details changed. Verificado also reported that Roblox communications called closure posts in April 2025 sensationalist and unfounded.
