The revised PS5 Pro (model CFI-7121) appears to use slightly less power, make less noise and weigh less than the launch model—but the teardown reports no improvement in game performance. The DualSense controller examined alongside it also lacks the rumored replaceable battery and an additional rear microphone. These are teardown findings, not Sony-announced specifications.
What changed in the revised PS5 Pro?
Notebookcheck’s October 16, 2025 report, updated October 5, 2026, identifies the examined console as the European CFI-7121. It describes internal revisions to the fan, power supply and rear heatsink, along with motherboard VRMs removed from the earlier design. The Shortcut’s October 21, 2025 account of the same teardown coverage also notes a plastic rather than metal fan grid.

The reported weight fell from 3.103 kg for the launch model to 3.016 kg for the revised unit—a difference of 87 grams, according to The Shortcut. Notebookcheck says the fan accounts for about half of the reduction and also describes the power supply and rear heatsink as lighter.
Is the new PS5 Pro more efficient and quieter?
The teardown accounts report small efficiency gains, but their figures differ and apply to the workloads each outlet describes:

- Gran Turismo 7: Notebookcheck reports 3–4% better efficiency for the revised model.
- Astro’s Playroom and Gran Turismo 7: The Shortcut reports a 2–3% efficiency increase across those games.
Both accounts estimate about 20% less noise. The Shortcut expresses that as approximately 2 dB. These are reported teardown estimates, not results from a published, reproducible testing protocol; they should not be treated as guaranteed gains across every game or setup. See Notebookcheck’s report and The Shortcut’s account for their respective contexts.
Does the revised PS5 Pro run games faster?
No performance increase was reported. Notebookcheck says the CFI-7121 retains the same advertised specifications as the launch PS5 Pro and showed no game-performance gains in the teardown coverage. The reported revisions concern efficiency, noise and internal construction, not a faster gaming experience.
Does the revised DualSense have a replaceable battery?
Not in the CFI-ZCT2W controller examined in the teardown: Notebookcheck reports that it does not have a replaceable battery and lacks an additional rear microphone. The Shortcut likewise says the revised controller loses the rear microphone and does not have a bigger battery; it also notes components from a different manufacturer.

An earlier September 29, 2025 Notebookcheck report described a leak claiming a DualSense V3 would have a removable battery, while noting Sony had not confirmed it. The later teardown account contradicts that claim for the examined controller. The removable-battery feature should therefore be treated as an unconfirmed rumor, not a specification. The earlier report is at Notebookcheck.

The reported changes do not make a performance-based case for replacing a launch PS5 Pro: the teardown accounts found no faster gameplay, while the efficiency and noise improvements are modest estimates. The lighter weight and quieter operation may matter to some owners, but the available reports do not establish how consistently those differences appear in other games or conditions. Check the exact console and controller model in a regional listing before buying; the Notebookcheck account concerns a European CFI-7121 and does not establish that every market receives the same revision.
