Their release plans now differ: PlayStation says Legacy of Atlantis arrives on PS5 on February 12, 2027, while Catalyst has an official 2027 listing but was later reported to have shifted to 2028.
What was revealed at The Game Awards?
Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis during The Game Awards 2025. They are distinct projects: one is a new story for Lara Croft, and the other revisits the adventure that introduced her.
The reveal is not an upcoming announcement for The Game Awards 2026. That show is scheduled for December 10, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The Game Awards reported 171 million global livestreams for its 2025 broadcast on December 18, 2025, 11% above the 154 million reported for 2024. Those figures cover the show, not Tomb Raider trailers or game viewership; the 2025 total also excluded Prime Video viewing. The Game Awards’ 2025 recap gives the figures and qualification.
What is Tomb Raider: Catalyst?
Tomb Raider: Catalyst is a new Lara Croft adventure set across Northern India. Amazon Game Studios described it as a new direction for the series, saying Lara “embarks on a new adventure across Northern India.” Crystal Dynamics says the game is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and describes a large world containing secrets, lost tombs, and intricate puzzles, with customized adventure technology.

Crystal Dynamics lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam as platforms on its official Catalyst page. The same page gives a 2027 release window. However, PC Gamer later reported that remarks by an Amazon executive indicated Catalyst would follow Legacy of Atlantis in 2028. The official project page reviewed still lists 2027, so 2028 should be treated as reported timing, not a confirmed update to that page.
What is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis?
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a modern reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut adventure—not simply a remaster. Crystal Dynamics announced the project with Amazon Game Studios and named Flying Wild Hog as a development partner. PlayStation’s announcement identifies PS5 as a platform.

PlayStation’s original announcement placed the game in 2026, but its later post dated June 2, 2026 gives the PS5 release date as February 12, 2027. That later platform announcement is the current date to use for PS5. Read PlayStation’s release-date announcement.
