It covered selected classic games and bundles—not SEGA’s entire catalog—and the affected products vary by storefront. SEGA says people who already own an affected game can still find it in their library to download and play. The company has not explained why it removed the listings.
What happened to SEGA’s classic games?
SEGA announced that selected SEGA Classics games and bundles would stop being available for new purchases beginning December 6, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PST. That deadline has passed. The Steam announcement specifically identifies removals from Steam, while SEGA’s support FAQ provides separate lists for Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.

The headline figure of “60+” comes from Notebookcheck’s 2024 report, not an exact total published by SEGA. A single count is difficult to establish because affected products differ by platform and include collections as well as individual games.
Which games were delisted on each platform?
The lists are not interchangeable: a game named on Steam should not be assumed to have been removed from every console storefront. SEGA’s SEGA Classics FAQ is the reference for the exact product and platform correspondence.
#1 Best Overall
- SEGA's collection of Genesis classics comes to a new generation of consoles - and players.
- Over 50 titles across all genres from all-time classics like Sonic and Streets of Rage 2 to deep RPGs like the Phantasy Star series; arcade action, shooters, puzzlers, old favorites and hidden gems.; Number of Players: 2 players simultaneous; ESRB Content: Mild Blood, Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence ; Genre: Arcade, Action, Platformer, Role-Playing
- New features bring modern convenience to the classics. Save your game at any time, rewind those slip-ups, or customize your controls. Earn bragging rights with online multiplayer and achievements.
- Exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, players can now compete in same-screen local coop mode and use each Joy-Con individually if desired.
- Steam: The listed products include Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, NiGHTS into Dreams, Sonic 3D Blast, Streets of Rage 2, and the Mega Drive and Genesis Classic Bundle.
- Xbox: SEGA lists a different set of products from the Steam list.
- Nintendo Switch: The FAQ identifies the SEGA Mega Drive Classics collection.
- PlayStation: The FAQ also identifies the SEGA Mega Drive Classics collection.
Because several listings are bundles or collections, check the platform-specific entry in SEGA’s FAQ rather than treating a named game or collection as a universal delisting.
Can existing owners still download and play the games?
Yes. SEGA’s FAQ says, “Your owned games will still be available in your library.” Its Steam announcement likewise says games and bundles purchased before the cutoff remain available to download and play for their owners.

This assurance concerns library access for people who already own the affected products. The notices do not promise that every platform service, account, or future reinstall scenario will work indefinitely. SEGA also notes that select classic titles remain playable for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers; that is a separate access route, not a promise that every delisted product is included.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why did SEGA remove the listings?
SEGA’s FAQ and Steam announcement do not give a reason. Notebookcheck also reported that the company had not explained the removals. Suggestions that SEGA may be preparing remakes or new collections, or that older ports and emulations were a factor, remain speculation—not confirmed explanations from SEGA.
