Yellow: Emblem

Purple: Fruits with their second letters changed
AMPLE, DOTE, LUMON, POACH
The purple set becomes easier to spot by restoring each word to a fruit: AMPLE resembles APPLE, DOTE resembles DATE, LUMON resembles LEMON, and POACH resembles PEACH. In each case, the second letter has changed.

How the groups fit
The yellow answers are words associated with an emblem or identifying mark. The green answers point to James Brown, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Freddie Mercury, all subjects of acclaimed musical biopics. The blue answers are U.S. city names. Purple is the wordplay category: each entry differs from a fruit by one changed second letter.

TechRadar published a guide to game #635 on March 6, 2025: NYT Connections hints and answers for Friday, March 7 (game #635). Tom’s Guide, in a Yahoo Entertainment-hosted guide published March 7, also lists the same groups and reports a difficulty rating of 4.3 out of 5 attributed to Connections Companion; the report does not specify the rating’s year, and it was not independently verified against an original Companion source.
